 		Strange. I tried tried that combination the day the login box was found. Wasn't working then. Must have had a type in the password. But then again, who thinks of such a long password......

I will post the message at the usual place. We'll see waht happens.

 		All I could find about Adramelech being the god of fire was from a book called "The Dictionary of Angels" by Gustav Davidson.

I researched the Hebrew and discovered: Adra = Fire + Melech = king/God, so his name literally means "king of fire"

Maybe I'm being overly pedantic, here, but I don't think that your derivation is correct.

You're right about melech, although it doesn't mean "G-d" -- it's just that G-d is sometimes referred to as a king.

But I'm not so sure about your translation of adra. It's hard to say for sure without seeing it in Hebrew, because I can't tell if the first letter should be an aleph or an ayin, but presumably it's a feminine form of adar.

If it's an aleph, it comes from a root meaning "majesty" or "splendor," or "ampleness." (Or, possibly from the Hebrew month of Adar, whose origins are probably of foreign derivation.)

In any case, I think it would probably translate more closely to "King of majesty."

More likely, considering that it occurs biblically in tandem with Anammelech, which would mean "King of [the tribe of] Anam" (which seems to have been a tribe running around Mesopotamia at the time -- possibly Egyptian) and it's been theorized that adar has a foreign origin, it probably just means "King of Adar" (or "King of the Adarites") or something similar.

But that's just my two shekels.

EDIT: Sorry -- should have read the wiki before posting. Trout I trout myself. I don't know enough yet of what should be spoilered, so I'll spoiler this.

Which means that I was a bit too technical -- the PMs clearly mean that "Adramelech" means "king of fire," so in context, that's what it means.

I just did some further research based on your reply, and you are in fact correct (Adramelech, "robe of the king" or "greatness or power of the king or the council," - from De praestigiis daemonum, Johann Weyer, 1583).

A lot of other sources online and in print must be deriving their meaning from Gustav Davidson's "A Dictionary of Angels", or from wherever he derived his.

I was able to locate a spelling in Greek: Αδραμελεχ, but none in non-transliterated Hebrew.

Well, ani medaberet ivrit and it just felt wrong. "Fire" is 'esh. And yes, transliteration sucks. Smile Unless people start using reasonable methods (I'm fond of ' for aleph and ` for ayin myself) it's a headache if the words aren't the commonly used sort you can just recognize.

But in any case, it's actually irrelevant -- what matters is what the PMs think it means. We have to play in their world.
