1587622319 etc.

jon's receipt is 1587622319

what i find curious is that there is not much on the forums found about these numbers. that is why i started this topic.

there is a lot of hexagonal stuff going on here.
has anybody tried to "translate" this number into a hexagonal?

unfortunate my maths is way too bad to understand even the slightest bit of it (im a trumpetplayer with too much spare time Very Happy )

perhaps it is worthwhile to check it for clues.

also, the numer is an ISBN for a book on how to get a succesfull marketeer. ingame or outgame?

can somebody check whether it could be a fibonacci?

(what im curious about is the code from the two businesscards, could it be a hexagonal too? you see, my knowledge is way to small about maths, but also, i havent seen anybody talking about this before, or i missed it, or search couldnt find it....)

If you mean base 6, then no, I don't think anybody has. It's clearly not a base 6 number because it contains numbers bigger than 5.

But still, to satisfy your curiosity, the tool says that 1587622319 converted to base 6 is 421312131154.555555. Seems wrong to me but I do think you're onto something bringing up the number (even if I am scared of instigating the sort of mathematical discussions happening over on the Syzygy board....).

I think he may have meant hexadecimal. 1587622319 converted to hex is 5EA131AF. Jon's login for his contract at S+S is 14bbb942, converted to decimal is 347846978.

I can't make anything out of either of them though.

I would imagine that it is *highly* likely that the number is purely referring to this book. It's about advertising and creating sucessful brands, so is probably just an in joke from Lowe, rather than a maths puzzle.

Hmm...you must have a photographic memory if you remember to have seen this number sequence somewhere on the net. Too bad you forgot where. Searching for the number all I got was references to the advertising book and two japanese (or chinese who cares) ARG sites. To be honest I understand shit of what they are posting there, but they do not seem to have any more numbers/passwords than we do.

Numbers in general - especially 1366 !!!

I can't help thinking we need to pay a lot more attention to the numbers in the game.

As mentioned by others in some of the other strings the number 1366 keeps coming up. 1366 is definitely the most mentioned number in the game so far.
Should we just ignore this?

A lot of religious and/or mythological books, themes and stories has a whole lot of numbers and codes in them.
We all know (I'm sure?) that the devils number is 666 (the number of the beast from revelations) for example.

Jon mentions numbers in the cache.
And theres the thing about "passwords should always be both numbers and letters" (or something like that, right?)

May I suggest that we make a full list of all the numbers mentioned in the game?

I'll start with all the numbers I can think of - but I'm sure I've missed some.

5045 * number written in front of the kitchen table

1-2-3-5-8-13-21-34 * lotto-numbers on Den Horens winning lottery-ticket

24-25-26 * The article about Den Horen:
In the second part of the text these numbers are mentioned like this:
"In the last 24 hours, former handyman Dennis Horen has become the 25th millionaire in our small community, and like all the others, his wealth has been delivered by Lady Luck herself. Den, 26, was on his way home from work....."

61 and 49 * The crossroads at Highways 61 and 49 is mentioned a few times

93935 * number printed on the map with the weather-forecast

93 * 93º mentioned the in weatherforecast (that never changes btw.)

6661366 * From the classified adds in Hornchurch Star:
1 prayer book, no longer required. Call Dennis on 6661366.
This would be Den Horen, right? (This number is also listed as the number to Sable + Shuck in another add, see below)

988488716 * Good money paid for quality soul - Stax, Volt and Atlantic preferred.
Local Call 988488716.

6661366 * (AGAIN!!) Are you pure? If so, we could do business.
Local call Sable on 6661366

1366 * Trident Air homepage (news) Following the boom..... including Magus-Portal MP1366 jet engines.....

13/13/2003 * Tident Air homepage (news) date for TRIDENT MOVES OPERATIONAL HEADQUARTERS Uhm... 13th month??? Not gregorian calender! Does anyone know a calendar with 13 months in it?

1366 * Pathway Travel - Destinations - Elysian Fields/Europa:
Our facilities
1,366 exquisitely handcrafted rooms
Anamnesis Chambers
Optional nymph service

Hmm.... 1366 again!

1366 * Just remembered this from the thread about The cache: Den Horen is the name of a brewery in Leuven, it opened in 1366. Guess which company started there? Right, Stella Artois.

1366 * According to Hornchurch Star (click orange field "about hornchurch" upper left corner) Hornchurch is a ...community made up of 1,366 inhabitants.

5-11 * Jons height

14 * 14 stone is Jons weight

***** Please add to this list! *****

Anybody know or know somebody who knows about numbers?

/Maria[/b]

The thing about numerology is that it is waaaaay too easy to contrive/see it where it doesn't exist. With enough time and effort, you can take just about any number and turn it into a deeper meaning that sounds pretty convincing.

Jerms,

I agree with you in real life, BUT this is a manmade game, so it could be that
some numerology was inserted.

Personally I hadnt even noticed the 24,25,26 thing yet, it might be laziness on the PM's part, then again it might actually mean something.

Don't take it as a condemnation of working the numbers angle, more of a simple warning. Avoid the numerology (e.g. Brigid...6 letters...like 666...oh noes she is teh satan!! OMGWTFBBQ!!1) unless you have a clear reason to do it.

Stick to more statistically sound methods, like noticing primes, fibioniccis, golden ratios, hex values, isbns, ip addresses, gps coords, etc.

Anyway, numerology is usually useful with ambience only (e.g. Bungie's affinity to 7's in ILB). It's stuff like the above (especially things that have already been established ingame, like fibionicci sequences) that is the hotter trail.
