On the idea that the writing was a serial number, I went googling trains+classification, and got this:
Polish Train Classification system. So at least in Poland, it would appear that the serial number won't be unique enough to be of any help (if it is a serial no.).

I'd imagine it would be similar in other countries, and that this method applies to railcars too... Dunno

Erm, you actually need a password to see that, so....
maybe not so surprising?

Gil: why not google train stations (for people) in Germany (the pic is from there, right?)
I guess it is, as dorkmaster said, semi urban. its a station where passenger cars AND tankers might be found...
the bears *might* be a hint

I tried to do some sharpening in Photoshop, but with little luck. The image resolution is not nearly high enough for professional image "makeup" work.

I'm pretty sure I can make out EZ TGUS or EZ TQUS .

Googling is inconclusive.

I tried some filtering and sharpening in Photoshop too, here's the result. To me it seems like 'EZTG99GZ','EZTG9962' or something similar, maybe someone else has more luck. That's the best I got out of it

Well done DIII. Better than I could do. Google doesn't help, though!

What is this footage thing all about? What is the goal? What are we REALLY looking for in the images? What are their purpose? I know, I know, read the book, but can we get a synopsis?
