I found a website that lists e to 2 millions places just for future reference. Was going to look for the number from the postcard but gave up after the first three pages.

There's only so much you can do with these things!

Could you post a link to that site?

after I almost had nightmares concerning this postcard, I decided, that this postcard was merely used to draw attention to the game. remember how many new people visited the board after the firebox catalogue? so yet another trick by sente, just a few puzzles. like the semacode - if someone would've decoded it, he/she'd have been taken to the perplex city site, and then start gaming. again, there were too many references to the game. like "perplex city sleeps" or "www.perplexcity.com" written backwards and upside down [like at a lot of other places, i wonder if THAT had any significance Wink ], the semacode was merely something to "play with". well, the number might be interesting. "helloworld" was _nothing_ interesting again [for me]. so i think that this postcard was merely used for introducing and to get new people hooked, then some playing-in-the-sandbox for the "older" players...
discuss?

But if it was to get more players - postcards hardly seem like the way - if you weren't already playing then unless you actually recieved one yourself then you wouldn't know about it. But having said that - I can't think what else they'd be for.

well, as far as i know, they were deployed at public places. [an airport is quite public... Smile ] . and there were a lot of OBVIOUS things on it, as i mentioned. but what clues did we get from it? i mean, *worthy* clues.

We did learn more about Perplex City.

In that it's a real city with gift shops and maybe a postal service (PCPS). I love those little details.

These postcards were found in a few airports and the wonderfull thing about airports is they take you places! I think the plan was to drop some in an airport, have some people pick them up, take them to a different country, and have them dispersed there, widing the interest in the game.

well, if you split them up, like 4-4-4-6, then you can find all of the numbers (2215454848465100503215) there... Mr. Green but well, i guess you'd need uber computers to find ANY underlying pattern... Rolling Eyes

if they didn't break the sequence it would be a lot easier to find strings of numbers... as it is, the string we search for may easily be split between lines, which just sucks... someone with spare time wanna write a program that will remove all the 'new line's? Razz

You can download the largest known prime from mathworld.

It's a 7MB text file, so about 7.5 million digits.
