[SPEC] What is Elysium?

I was re-reading Pandora's Elysium message (ok, yes, I'm obsessed); specifically, this:
Pandora wrote:
Open your eyes Redpills, do not be fooled by promises of bliss and plenty. There is no return to the deceitful ignorance that you once called your life. Elysium as "they" have come to call your instrument of destruction, is a fatal placebo. If you make the journey to Wright Research you will not return, "they" are waiting for those redpills, foolish enough to seek its embrace. There is no happy ending, not as advertised by this vehicle of doom, the real, the truth you know is harsh and cold but at least its freedom, and a chance at a better tomorrow.

I think "Redpill" is MxO slang for "unplugged". Evidentally, the unplugged people can now come back to the matrix (under the truce) and be guaranteed relative safety by the machines (again, please someone correct me here).

So, that would mean that the unplugged people, while doing stuff inside the matrix to further their cause, will be approached by Elysium people and offered the yellow pills. I sort of envision a bunch of steak-eating Cyphers, eager to be re-inserted into the matrix. I originally thought that they would actually be deceived by the Elysium people, but this: "the real, the truth you know is harsh and cold but at least its freedom" seems to suggest that Pandora is warning Redpills not against the deceipts of Elysium, but against choosing the fake but comfortable matrix existence over the ugly reality - as in, this isn't a drug for the unplugged people, it's more along the lines of something Cypher would have been given to be put back in the matrix (and how does that work, anyway? they actually stick those people into pink pods and reconnect them?). Which, I suppose, is rather weird, because slumberil (a pill that, as far as I understand, helps people "not feel the urge to wake up") doesn't really seem like a product that all that many already unplugged people would be interested in checking out Confused

This is probably *miles* off -
I think that the yellow pill might in fact be the red pill.
(That mouse over image has only added to my thought)
Since the inverse of the colour blue/yellow is yellow/blue then perhaps the effects of the pills are equally inverted. The blue pill makes you sleep - the yellow pill makes you wake up. Perhaps Elysium is knowingly/unknowingly marketing a pill made by Pandora (Rebecca was in charge of research and development - which is the page that Elysium was posted on and she would have to have had a hand in creating the new product) to wake up bluepills.
Hmmm...
Anyone else think so? Or have I read too much/too little into this?
- C

I also suspect Elysium is a promise for replugging into the matrix, but this promise isn't being followed through....maybe as mentioned is a psudo-matrix used to "interrogate" the redpills for information about the ongoings outside the matrix....

Or it could be referencing to this, but i doubt they would advertise a competing MMORPG Smile

I'm siding with Yanka on this one. More evidence to support this is that "paranoia" is a perfect way to describe redpill (or imminent redpill -- yes, that is a known slang for unplugged humans) behavior. But the message itself certainly very much implies that Elysium intends to follow through on the Cypher promise.

However, I would not be surprised if Elysium actually does work, at least to some extent...that would throw another shade of grey into the moral issues surrounding the Matrix. If the Machines really do just want to give the humans who want it the chance to plug back in to the Matrix...well, now, wouldn't that be interesting?

By the way, do we have any evidence that the Machines weren't going to follow through on their promise to Cypher? I've always assumed that to be the case -- it was Agent Smith running the show, after all -- but now I'm having my doubts.

OR

redpills could be people in the martix who want to be unpluged and the yellow pill is just as said a plesbo or maybe a blue pill to stop people from being unpluged remember they need humans as batteries

My theories:
Slumberil- The proverbial "Blue Pill" Pretty much the one that Morpheus offered to Neo in The Matrix.

redpills- people who have taken the redpill and are now living in the real world. The are the ones that jack into the matrix and fight agents and all that good stuff.

Elysium- I'm thinking that it's a kind of "reverse red pill" Probably something similar to what Cypher would have taken to put himself back into the Matrix. It erases your memories of ever having been a "redpill", and once you take it, you'll never know that you are living in a fabricated reality

Also, I think that the company that produces Elysium and Slumberil is probably run by the machines or agents, or something like that..

Wright Research is currently run by an exile, check the City Guide.

This is from here:

Quote:
Wright Research Corporation

The Wright Research Corporation is a fairly new addition to the Tabor Park area, having just constructed a new headquarters adjacent to the green field of Tabor Park. Through our operatives we have discovered that the company is controlled by an exile called Silver, whose previous holdings have been primarily in Achan. This push into Tabor Park may be part of a strategy to control resources there, as several powerful exiles who previously lay claim to it were destroyed in the events leading to the Truce.

The head of the company is a brilliant businesswoman and scientist, a redpill by the name of Danielle Wright, who by all accounts is one of Silver's main lieutenants. She was once an operative of mine until she lost faith in the vision offered by Commander Lock - of a powerful and free Zion.

The new Wright Research Corporation headquarters is a glass and brick building with little to identify it as a place of importance, but it is certain that Silver is carrying on projects there which we would be interested in. Perhaps in the future you will have the opportunity to help us discover them.

So, it seems that the whole Wright Research (and, by extension, Slumberil) is keen on keeping everyone in the matrix, where they will attempt to subject them to their control. Rebecca (Pandora? Rebecca aka Pandora?) used to be part of that team (whether with full or partial knowledge), but now she is rebelling.

In light of that, I am not sure how much sense it would make that the yellow pill is actually the red pill. If Elysium was actually the red pill, why would Rebecca urge redpills to stay away from it (that is, unless you want to get really twisted: Elysium is a red pill - they overtly advertise it as a yellow pill - then plant Rebecca to label Elysium as "the vehicle of doom" - so that only the people who can see through all the uh... twisting... would take it? All in the name of distributing red pills? I don't know... that sounds too complicated to make sense). I think the simpler explanation is that mouse over might have just been added by added by Pandora as a way of saying "hey, screw the yellow pill; take the red one!" Then Neil stegs it to brag about his greatness.

Bah, there is still so much that doesn't make sense, though. How is he planning to pin Pandora's stuff on Greg (he is planning to do that, right? I mean, he said to Greg "and as far as the pictures causing the site pain, you mental midget, it's only a matter of time…")? Will he steg more pictures with messages "from Greg"? That seems like the easiest thing for him to do, since Greg is "the artist", and the images are his domain... I think Quinn was alluding to that as well... How will we know when he's done that? Will he be so kind as to send an e-mail to himself? Wink

"...yellow pill is actually the red pill."
I always theorized it was a middle ground between two overt choices. Or something like that.. I typed it all out under our theories section if you wanna read the full account of my drivel. Very Happy

Do you mind linking to that or pasting it here? It's kinda hard to find that post when there are about 50 other ones in that section Smile

according to http://slumberil.com/elysium.php it is for paranoid schizophrenia... but the symtoms they describe appear to be things that almost anyone would have in the example situations.

Quote:
Paranoid Schizophrenia can make you fear or avoid

• Meeting new people
• Talking to your boss - or anyone in charge
• Speaking in front of groups
• Drawing attention to yourself

If you have to do these sorts of things, you may

• Blush
• Sweat
• Tremble
• Feel your heartbeat increase
• Be compelled to run to for the nearest exit in the face of any immediate authority figure.
• See hidden messages that in fact do not exist

I know that I am not a paranoid schizophrenic, but i sweat, have increased heartrate and blush when drawing attention to myself, talking to an authority figure or speaking in front of groups.

This isn't really anything, just my 2 cents.

"Why, I blush and get nervous when I talk to my boss and groups. Maybe I'm really paranoid? I better take this pill."

I get the impression they're making it seem like normal activity is extraordinary, and that you need to take a pill for it. Their pill.

agents?

wait, i just realized,"Be compelled to run to for the nearest exit in the face of any immediate authority figure." In Matrix lang, the "exit" was the nearest available outlet in the form a phone from the matrix, and in the face of an agent (an authority figure) they would run for the nearest exit from the matrix.

The machines claim Elysium puts you back to sleep. Pandora warns us, though, that all it really does is kill ya. I think she called it a fatal placebo....
