[info] IU

IU is a relative newcomer to the scene, compared to Unfiction.

An ARG player/PM, NashCarey, has a different philosophy regarding what makes up the ARG experience and established an environment separate from Unf. There are some players in both universes, and some play only in one of them.

This is an interview with Nash at another site. The tone of his responses is something that stood out to me, in contrast to the responses that I've typically seen from SpaceBass, Jamesi, Bill, et al.

jonathan2k4 and by offering this money to people you are watering down the overall quality of games- as no-doubt- you would get the odd bad one, someone motivated by nothing more than "oh, look I got xxxx$ lets see what shit I can cook up..>"
NashCarey Maybe. Who cares. I don't. It is my money. And the players time. If they are not interested. They will find another game.

Quote:
jonathan2k4 We know that with ARG's there are a lot more lurkers than players. Period.
NashCarey I don't know that, so next question

jonathan2k4 Anyway, During Aware, many people seemed to think that you used an OUT OF GAME forum, as a device for retrieving in-game-information. This would violate the "trust" players developed with those forums when posting their ideas & comments. I was involved in such an incident while I played aware, and felt let down by the PM's for using OOG information.
NashCarey To play an ARG you don't have to come in chat. I won't debate, this is an interview

Quote:
jonathan2k4 When players attempt to reference to Unfiction on your forums, why is the name changed to something else?? Many do not see this as subtle humor
NashCarey Actually, I tire of that, Bill, care to answer?

Ok yes we all know that IU is newer than UF is. So what?

What I can't figure out, is why you decided to go post a bunch of stuff about Nash. Weephun didn't ask who nash is did he? Maybe he or someone else did but I didn't see that. I'm also not sure why you decided to go ahead and post some out-of-context blurbs from an interview either?
Odd...

Why post it? In answer to the question "is IU a newcomer."

I posted the link to the complete interview, so folks could fully contextualize - and I posted the lead in question. I don't think there's any misrepresentation going on there.

hmm

Dmax, man, you know I love you and all, but that's all taken out of context.

I'll readily admit that I don't personally stand up for everything Nash has done, but in the same breath, it's not entirely his fault. Not to dredge that all up again, I'll move on to answering the question.

Even though Nash is the principal creator of the other forum, it is given life by the people frolicking within it - and I can assure you, as a person who frequents both forums, that the actions and opinions of the Nash (for better and for worse, depending on your point of view and desire to know) are not necessarily those of the constituents.

If I put blinders on and reached at random in the dark into one Schrodinger box containing the Unfictiverse and then another containing the Immersiverse without knowing which, I'd find in each hand, with enough such random samplings, the same slew of angry cats, purring cats, and dead cats. Not to mention the same cat in both boxes in some instances. The personalities are, statistically speaking, indistinguishable.

So what I recommend is that you ignore subjectivity from Those Who Have Come Before (myself included), and just take a look at both - the "traditional" unfiction, and the "innovative" (in that it is new, not necessarily better, which is a subjective opinion) Immersion Unlimited, and decide what style of curtain you like.

In my opinion, which you can take or leave, they're both valid, and they're both enjoyable - if you find that you don't like one sandbox, don't play in it, but you might miss out on a really cool game that happens not to involve the one or two people in either forum you find that you really can't stand (again, myself included).

This interview that you are posting was one heck of an interview. I was present for it, and at first things went swimmingly enough, but then Jonathan here just went into an all-out attack against Immersion Unlimited and Nash's philosphy, and frankly put Nash got a bit angry. I know I would have done the same in his shoes. Plus, Jonathan was a bit.. well... Drunk during it. His spelling was horrible that night, and I also think that Nash was a bit angry at that as well. And if you look at Hojo's questions to Nash, you will notice that the answers are very good (as are the questions being asked by Hojo) and it was a swell interview!

Knowing Nash the way I do, and talking with him frequently, and being present at that chat... well... It was just a bad bad bad bad interview. And yes, I do blame Jonathan. I think that was his big bang chat, because he quit ARG Insider after that.

If you know what went on during that chat, you realize why everything in that interview was bull.

Your love for me is taken out of context? OMG - after all we've been through....

Smile

Well, I registered in IU and I've been hanging in some of the more IU chat areas, so I'm dipping my toe in. So I'm already thinking like you suggested. I'll see what the tone is and go from there. After all, if you and Runge stick up for it, it's got to be...

WHAT AM I SAYING INTERROBANG

Yeah well guys as much as I love threads being completely taken over by random other crap, maybe we could keep these disputes out of this thread. Smile

Someone asked a question, dmax posted a response, if you have something to say to him, then the PM button is right there.
