Dale's Email 6/27 from Wes

Subject: I Knew It

Date: 27 June 2003

Dale,

Sam told me about your decision. I know it won't be easy but, like I said in our last conversation, I really don't think you have a choice anymore. This whole thing has taken a couple of turns we didn't foresee and everything is happening much too quickly. So here's where we stand.

If we are going to be able to use the manuscript "connection" to our advantage, I need to have something to show, to use as leverage. That means I can't put it off any longer. I have to go and get the next page. I'm almost positive I know where it is but have been hesitating actually retrieving it because of the potential complications if something goes wrong. It seems I can wait no more.

We also need to use the clue provided us by the disc and the map and go and see what may be waiting for us along the old hiking trail paths. Unless something has changed in discussion between you and Sam, he's planning on going out there tomorrow and seeing what he can find. He'll be going during the day and taking the Trail Map with him so he shouldn't be in any danger or run into any trouble. Hopefully he'll find whatever Sarah seems to be pointing us towards.

And you seem determined on going out to Ash Grove Park. I wish you could wait until we could go there together but I understand both your urgency and your reasoning for going alone. If you can indeed find and talk to this Digitalis, it could really help us in figuring out this whole thing. Just be careful. I know we have talked about this many times already but I do not trust these Mythosphere guides, including Digitalis. If I am right about them and who they serve, helping you may not be their first priority.

Speaking of which, that reminds me of the main reason I started writing this. I believe I have found something possibly important about the "other" side, the ones we have been calling the dead eyes. Remember that book, the one I mentioned to you before and never really finished explaining how I thought it was connected? The one I left the note about? I think I have found someone who knows something about them. And it's from that book. I knew it!

Call me tonight. We need to talk more about all of this, and I'll tell you what I have found. We definitely need to talk before I take off in the morning and before you go out to AGP. Are you going to turn yourself in to receive the subpoena right after that?

Wes

The Fairies

Up the airy mountain,
Down the rushy glen,
We daren't go a-hunting
For fear of little men;
Wee folk, good folk,
Trooping all together;
Green jacket, red cap,
And white owl's feather!
Down along the rocky shore
Some make their home,
They live on crispy pancakes
Of yellow tide-foam;
Some in the reeds
Of the black mountain-lake,
With frogs for their watch-dogs,
All night awake.
High on the hill-top
The old King sits;
He is now so old and gray
He's nigh lost his wits.
With a bridge of white mist
Columbkill he crosses
On his stately journeys
From Slieveleague to Rosses;
Or going up with music
On cold starry nights,
To sup with the Queen
Of the gay Northern Lights.
They stole little Bridget
For seven years long;
When she came down again
Her friends were all gone.
They took her lightly back,
Between the night and morrow,
They thought that she was fast asleep,
But she was dead with sorrow.
They have kept her ever since
Deep within the lake,
On a bed of flag-leaves,
Watching till she wake.
By the craggy hill-side,
Through the mosses bare,
They have planted thorn-trees
For pleaseure here and there.
Is any man so daring
As to dig one up in spite,
He shall find the thornies set
In his bed at night.
Up the airy mountain,
Down the rushy glen,
We daren't go a-hunting
For fear of little men;
Wee folk, good folk,
Trooping all together;
Green jacket, red cap,
And white owl's feather!
