Email Penrose willing to help Phyllis

I know that part of this has been posted but I wanted to start a new phyllis thread

My Dear Sunny,
Thank you so much for your message. I must admit to having already heard about poor Mrs. Willingham's terrifying incident. I feel so very terrible for her and would of course, do anything I can to help out the damsel in distress. Luckily, I am in the position to provide her with quite an accurate appraisal of her loss. At least for the manuscript page in question. The pictures I have seen should allow me to do this quite easily. I will work on drafting such a document as soon as my schedule allows.
It has been just a little while since last we corresponded but it certainly has been an eventful time for both myself and my work at www.missingmanuscript.com.
I do indeed have some new information about the missing manuscript pages that will soon be posted to my site, as well as some additional pictures that you inquired about. The new material should be available this weekend. And the fun isn't over yet. In exchange for a rather healthy financial incentive and some information he dearly wanted, your friend, Mr. Keeler, is off on another errand for me, one I'm hoping will bear as much fruit as his other recent efforts.I also need to give credit where credit is due; without the efforts of you and some others in the States there, I could not have made the recent acquisition or progress I have made. So I owe you chaps a pint the next time you're over here on the right side of the ocean.Ah, I so love it when a plan comes together, don't you? Tell me, my dear, do you believe in destiny?

It is an unfortunate circumstance that the manuscript was stolen before the appraisal of it could be completed so now she cannot recoup her losses until a complete appraisal is made. I hope that I'm not overstepping any boundaries, but I was wondering if you could assist me in resolving this matter. As an accredited historian, you could provide her with the succor that she currently needs to soothe her mind, after the brutal attack upon her person so that she may put all of this behind her and start the mental healing process. I know it is highly irregular and somewhat improper, but I'm asking you as a gentleman to help a lady in distress. You are one of the few people that I could think of, who might be in a position to help her. I Hope that you'll forgive my impertinence, and will indulge me in my request. But poor Phyllis really needs a small break right now, lest her mind shatter into myriad fragments. And I doubt that she'd ever be able to pull herself together again afterwards. Thank you for your kind attention in this matter. I humbly await your answer.

My Dearest Sally,
I do apologize for the offense you have taken at my earlier reply and
my poor and ungentlemanly choice of words. I was merely wounded by the many accusations that had been levelled against me since poor Dame Willingham suffered her terrible incident. I stand by my statement as both an English gentleman and a serious student of history that I had absolutley nothing to do with the planning and or execution of the crime against Mrs. Willingham. I can't, however, say that I would be above, hmm let me see, finding a bright side in the midst of the Willingham's tragedy. In other words, if someone offered me something I really wanted and had been searching for, anonymously that is, for a very long time, why I'd be foolish not to take advantage of such an offer.

Spec: Wes Keeler was the thief and he has been missing because he traveled to England (or whereever) to sell the stolen goods to Colin. Now he's out looking for more?

Is this going to be a race between us and Wes to find the disc?

The looking for more is spec. That Wes did the snatching is quite clear due to the admission of liberation he gave in chat.

Wes is chasing something, but I don't think it's the disc.. Possibly the other items though.

email phyllis gratitude for help

Sunny, dear,

This is wondrous good news! I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your doing
this for me. As you say, we'll just have to wait and see if Mr. Penrose is a
man of his word and sends the appraisal. It will be such a relief to get some
compensation for my loss. You are a true friend.

Phyllis

He said he is very busy but he said had previously received some good pictures of your manuscript and that he thinks that with those pics and the manuscript that he possesses he will be able to give a very good accounting of its worth. He seems very willing and quick to share but I still have my doubts about him. We shall see wont we?
Finally some good news! I am so glad that I am able to help your recoup some
of your losses. Well that is it for tonight altho I have some questions to
ask you later!
You know what a curious creature I am! LOL
Take care....

Email From Colin to Phyllis Manuscript/Police are after him

Dearest Sunny,

I got this email last night from Colin Penrose and I wanted you to know that your efforts on my behalf have been successful. I'm going to do just as he suggests and let him deal directly with my insurance company -- and the police. It will be very interesting to watch him "clear up this misunderstanding." I'll write to you later today about other things. I'm still feeling quite happy and serene but there are clouds gathering...

Phyllis

Subject: Manuscript Page Appraisal
To: hollowneedleSPLATaglauranj.org

My Dear Mrs. Willingham,
I do sincerely apologize for the slight delay in getting back with you but this is not an easy task that has been set before me. The appraisal of such and ancient and one-of-a-kind treasure, especially when it has to be done entirely from pictures and images, is certainly more art than science. One of the main complications of this method is in attempting to evaluate the condition of the piece. The images definitely show the page to be in much better condition than one would expect, given it's assumed age. Furthermore, there is very little frame of reference to compare this find to. The number of public sales or auctions of such a piece are few and far between, as most are eagerly taken off the market by private collectors before anyone else even knows of them. But never fear; the Penrose family has been overcoming impossible obstacles for generations and I have indeed been able to assign a value to your recent loss.
Although it could certainly fetch a much higher price at a well-publicized and attended auction, I would estimate the value of the page to be approximately $26,000. If you so desire, you may have your insurance company contact me directly for my credentials as well as to receive a written formalized appraisal for their use. I will also most definitely use my resources and connections in this field to try and dig up any possible leads as to the location of your missing page. Speaking of which, I wonder if you could be so kind as to forward to me the contact information for the local constabulary there in Aglaura. It has come to
my attention that I myself might be a suspect in this dastardly deed and I
would like to clear up this misunderstanding with due haste. Your help in this matter would further ingratiate you to me, more so than you already are.

Sincerely,
Colin Penrose

Reply from Penrose 6/27

My Dearest Sally,
I've hesitated to reply to this last missive of yours due to the extenuating
circumstances that have developed over this whole unfortunate situation over
there in the States. The last thing I need is complications in my attempts to
find the remaining pages of the fabled lost Fourth Book.
And things are further complicated by my, ahem, current cooperation with
someone over there right now, working both for and with me as we try to unravel
this cross-generational mystery. I am uncertain as to what he may have chosen
to share with his friends and associated there, and am loath to undermine his
efforts on our behalf with careless words.
Still, I can hardly sit back and let my family reputation be forever damaged by
careless and somewhat ignorant accusations and rumors about what actually
happened regarding the manuscript page that has been reported missing from that
business in Aglaura, New Jersey. Please don't misunderstand me; I am not saying
that you have done that, only that I have indeed caught wind of such terrible
things happening over in that tiny corner of the world.
Without damaging whatever gentlemanly agreement may still exist between my
business associates in this matter and myself, I will say one thing. I
absolutely did not steal or arrange for the theft of said manuscript page. I
actually paid quite a nice sum to a person who represented himself as the owner
or a legitimate agent of the owner in what was what I believed to be an
entirely legal transaction. My earlier reluctance in sharing these details with
you was out of concern for having the intercontinental transport of such a
historically significant artifact challenged, delayed, and possibly
exorbitantly taxed.
Now, in reply to your query, I have indeed located the second page of the
manuscript, or more correctly, discovered its current location. It should be in
my possession shortly. Additionally, I (and my state-side associate) are on the
verge of doing the same for another of the pages. I promise to post some images
when I get a chance.
And I would like to say one another thing to you. Sometimes the noblest of
intents have need to be concealed.

Colin Penrose
