I don't know really what to say here... I will say there is a group that a lot of E^3 won't play with just because a lot of us don't find it fun. Most of us in E^3 play this game for fun, and don't take it too seriously. It's a game. If we win, great. If we lose, that's too bad. But, if I may speak for most of E^3, most of us I think would rather play a great game (and we had some last night), than constantly win by a slaughter.

From my experience, a lot of the people we don't play with, we don't play with because they're disrespectful. Whether this be not being quiet so people can hear the party leader or other important information (hence, last night), or not following the rules of a player-made game (bumper cars comes to mind... which we need to play again soon), and it makes the game a lot less fun. There have been times when we've been exploring some level or another, and certain people won't stop killing other people, even when we ask them not to. And I'm not taling once or twice... I'm talking completely disrupting the course of the exploration. That's a perfect example of why I won't play with someone.

It's not necessarily fair. But respect gets you a long way, especially with a group like this. I think a lot of this started way back in the forums or on the chat room, when ILB was still going on. You could see who was going to be respectful, and who wasn't.

I don't know what to tell you, Incit. My best advice is on those few occasions when you get to play with E^3, try to see how we act, and figure out how to emulate it. I know I can see a stark difference between a lot of the E^3 players and the people we don't play with often. And it usually comes in what we say, how we say it, and when we say it. And how we listen. I suspect most of us respond to actions, not to words. It's not enough to say "see, I've changed...", we need to be able to see it and notice it for ourselves.

Mind you, I'm not speaking for E^3 at the moment, although I'd suspect a lot of them share a lot of the same sentiments. However, others may have other issues that I haven't highlighted here, either because I haven't picked up on them, or they don't bug me as much.

And I'm not trying to start a flamewar here. That's the last thing I want to do in this thread. But I do believe communication is important, and I want to try and keep the lines open. If anyone has a problem with anything I've said here, and can't be civil about the reply, I ask that you please PM me, instead of taking it out on everyone else who reads this thread.

I appreciate the responce, and I do understand your sentiments.
The group I have spent most of my time playing with has had similar problems with individuals of whom we have followed similar prosedures in isolating from games.

I just want it known that I am making a serious concious effort to change, specifically to be more accepted by you guys, and I pride myself with having sung 1 song by request and told no stories or rants since New Years.
Generally I very much enjoy the games I do get the oppertunity to play with you guys, and I have the utmost respect for you and your wishes.
I only hope that I will be given another oppertunity in the future.

Just wanted to point out that allot of Beekeepers share the same belief.

To be honest, the other night when you played with us a lot of us noticed how much more quiet and agreeable you were, so it's definitely an obvious change, and everyone certainly appreciates it. I think everyone was just kind of on edge last night since it was Friday evening and just wanted to relax, and the sheer volume coming from the lobby was a bit overbearing.

And don't be so hard on yourself. Stories and the like are fine for telling; hell, we all do it.

I still can't help but feel a little shut out, especially when now, only INCyr will even re-accept my friend request.

I mean I no longer tell stories, go on rants, or sing ;p for the consideration of my fellow players, and because they were pointed out to be excessive. Been that way for a noticeable while now

I simply want to play with you guys, and since my only tickets into said games are generally with a rambunctious group of people, they don't last long.

Just wanted to get that off my chest. I apologize for my whining, but I wanted my thoughts on the table so that you guys understand where I am coming from.

Hey man, I'm all about second chances. All I've heard lately from E^3ers is how much you've changed. So, Send me an invite, I'll accept it, and we'll go from there.

Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out how that all worked out, but anyone who doesn't like it can thank DOTR. Wink

In honor of this reconciliation, I present the Benny Hill theme, so that all may enjoy the occasional playing of it over XBL.

It goes through the headset quite clear, due to the lack of bass.

PERFECT for those big Zombie games on Zanzibar, esp. when running up and down the beach.

I just wanted to say that I have noticed and appreciated it, Incit.

It's generally better if we all get out of our heads and just play more honestly rather than blathering (include me in the blather!) here, but I just thought I'd mention it.

I am honestly in tears right now, listening to the Benny Hill theme, and reading your avatar...

Can I just say how much I LOVE playing with you guys? Win or lose, you make the game so much more fun, I wouldn't believe it if I didn't experience it. Wink

We need to do clan matches more often. That was such a blast!

I'd just like to echo that sentiment. Those were definitely some of the most fun games I've played. You guys are great.

First things first. Yes, yes, yes.

Best. Avatar. Ever.

Okay, onto less fun things.

<sigh>

Maybe it's best that this did come up. I do not claim to be speaking for E^3 here or anything -- only for myself.

Incit, the last few times I've played with you you've been perfectly normal and fun to play with.

However, the first few times I encountered you on Live, and here on the forum, you annoyed the socks off me, which is why I've been hesitating about accepting your friend request.

I'm actually going to tell you what precisely annoys me, which I normally wouldn't, because I think the problems may be arising because you don't understand what precisely you're doing that turns so many people off, and since the discussion is already public...

I'll try and make it as quick and painless as I can without failing to explain it fully.

It's *not* the singing. Plenty of people sing and it doesn't make me grind my teeth. It's not the storytelling. Hey, storytelling's a good way to pass the time in the lobby sometimes. I've never heard you rant.

It's the attitude.

In your first post here, you announced that you came from Bungie.net, where you were a "leading theorist." When someone challenged the content of one of your posts in another thread, you announced it again.

I thought that over a hundred posts later, you'd figured out the error of your ways, but one night Kali and I were playing on Live, and you showed up and introduced yourself verbally the same way.

So let me spell it out for you. Any time you enter into a new situation, or a new group of people, whether they have established relationships with one another or not, and the first thing you do is brag or talk about how important you think you are, you will be met with hostility.

If the group of people is nice, they may try to hide their offense, as the beekeepers I was playing with when you arrived did. (Well, Kali did slip in a few choice Arabic insults, but only because she knew you wouldn't understand them and therefore they wouldn't aggravate the situation the way confronting you might.)

But that doesn't mean that even the people that try to smooth over your faux pas will want to continue to associate with you.

We don't care who you think you are. When you show up in a community like the forum, or like the beekeepers who play together regularly on Live, you have to earn your own reputation.

You don't see Angelo entering new groups of people and introducing himself by saying, "Hi, I'm Angelo, nominated for All-Around Favorite Beekeeper! I'm a moderator on Unfiction! Beautiful married women can't get over how hot I am! Go ahead and look long and lovingly, ladies! Oh, you can't see me? Rats."

You don't see Krystyn introducing herself with a "Hi, I'm Krystyn. I PM'd a mind-blowingly wondrous ARG, and I can moderate with the best of them! I am beloved by all! Oh, and I can sing, too! If you are fortunate, I will honor you with my contagious giggle!"

You don't see me bursting into other ARG forums going, "I'm Phaedra. I've got a higher IQ than 99.97% of the country! I managed to con everyone into thinking I was a genius so well that Melissa was shaking when she got me on the phone! BOW BEFORE ME!"

Or take your pick. There are a gazillion beekeepers here who have things to brag about (heck, who doesn't have something to brag about? -- I just picked the three above examples because I figured that Angelo and Krystyn would take it in good humor), but should any of us do so, we could expect to be smacked down HARD, and deservedly so.

When you make your appearance for the first time in an environment like these forums, you have no status. It doesn't matter who you are (unless you're someone truly famous, either generally or in the ARG world -- e.g. Sean Stewart, Elan Lee, or say, Julia Roberts) -- regardless of who you may be elsewhere, regardless of what status you believe you've earned in some other milieu, you're a newcomer.

Therefore, it behooves you to be humble.

We don't give a Censored about Bungie.net. We care what you say and do here. And behaving as if you have Descended From On High is a good way to make people want to accelerate that descent straight into a mud puddle.

When you introduce yourself as "Incitatus from the forum," which is a completely appropriate way to introduce yourself to beekeepers, leave it at that. Don't try and impress people with your membership in Team Megawatt or whatever, or by bragging about your speculation, because we're not impressed and we actually couldn't care less.

So. Quit trying to be Someone and just be yourself, and I think you'll have an easier time of it.

Because just plain Incitatus is a reasonably likeable guy, while Incitatus the Grand High Pooba of Speculation is not.

Now, that said, I will go accept your friend request. Smile

What pita learned today:

angelo is hotter than 99.97% of the country.

krystyn PM'd mind-blowingly beautiful married women.

Phaedra has a higher IQ than a contagious giggle.
