[PUZZLE] Find your flyers, solve level 4...

Okay, Might as well start a thread on level 4, seeing as we've spent all day today on IRC talking about it...

As we saw, SevenTen posted the flyer that was slipped under his door. Some wildspec from My part says that possibly each flyer drop will have different flyers - the same message, each with a chessboard, but with different chess moves, and then we will possibly need to piece them together to get a message out for the completion of level 4 (sound familiar?).

Any thoughts?

On the flyer that was posted today, there are three moves. As the chess board is labelled rows and columns, I thought maybe we need to note down the co ordinates of the moves, so this is what we got:

E8 to G8
D4 to E6
G5 to F6

I can see why these are called ARG (add H!) Evil or Very Mad

I've just spent my lunch hour (on my business trip to Glasgow) trying to hunt down a flyer without any success. Admittedly an hour probably isn't long enough but I wandered up to the university library (no joy there, not even three floors), wandered across the road to the main (church looking) building, no joy there. Back into town and walked the length of Pitt Street looking for either a church of knowledge or a place where William Pitt and Seraphina would meet, went into the Novotel hotel no joy!

The only thing that springs to mind now is Glasgow's central library (if such a place exists). <turns to google>

William Pitt is the dude that founded Pittsburgh, and someone's already pointed out the existence of the 'Cathedral of Learning' at the University of Pittsburgh, and there's a lounge on the third floor there, so they were going to check that out.

William Pitt was also a Prime Minister of UK, and I figured he may have had some notable connections with Glasgow, possibly at the university.

Incidently the library at the university does have a 3rd floor which had a reception area and so on, but only students and academic staff are allowed in, so it was never likely to be there:(

Later during the day, however, Callista popped up on the chatroom and muttered stuff about Scotland and Raymond and 98 Buchanan Street which happens to be the address of one Borders bookstore which has the postcode G1 3BA (why Royalmail and Streetmap have no record of it I've no idea ) Sadly I only gained this knowledge 5 minutes before my taxi arrived to take me back to the airport so didn't have time to visit the store.Sad

On the San Diego clue: DWing, Amat, Seirei, and I possibly narrowed it down to the La Jolla Library yesterday morning. La Jolla's spanish for jewel, and there are two beaches named Jolly and one named Children's Pool there. Plus, the library's only a few blocks from the beach.

During a recent conversation on #wildfireindustries with Seraphina, it was mentioned that there were 3 different WI flyers put out. It was suggested that each flyer could be placed with the other 2 and make "something" but no indicatoin of what that something is. There was no real indication of which flyers went where and it is also possible the all 3 flyers could be located at one location.

Lets find some flyers!

How we got the solution to the flyers:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Seraphina|Work> Hello!
<Poke> First appearance of the sweating sickness in England.
<Poke> lol
<Jules> hello!
<ZaZen> battle of bosworth
<cornetchap> Hi Sera
<Nadif> hello!
<Midnight> Hey there
<Kitten> hi!
<Poke> Hey, Sera
<DWing010> 1485: Tudors begin their rule of England
<miss_caro> hi sera!
<DWing010> Hi Sera
<Jules> yup
<KnightWhoSays_Ni> Hello
<Seraphina|Work> Now, to make this final.
<sux0rbiscuit> oh hello
<ZaZen> hello, Sera
<Seraphina|Work> It is online.
<KnightWhoSays_Ni> k
<DWing010> yep, that will do it
<DWing010> Thank you Sera
<Seraphina|Work> You owe me.
<DWing010> Only if you hire me Smile
<Seraphina|Work> So, does this put all the pieces in the proper places?
<DWing010> It at least puts a clearer picture of where they should go.
<sux0rbiscuit> I am confused
<Kitten> why, sux?
<Jules> i'm puzzled
<Jules> but in an intruiged sort of way, so it's alright
<Poke> I think I see how this might work...
<Seraphina|Work> Go ahead Mr. Poke.
<sux0rbiscuit> I feel stupid for not seeing anything
<Poke> Ack
<miss_caro> ooh yeah...
<Poke> I wasn't gonna say anything
<Poke> But, um...
<Poke> This flyer looks similar to the chess one
<sux0rbiscuit> I don't see the picture
<miss_caro> yes - i almost wonder...
<Poke> I'm thinking that after the moves are made, we'd take whatever coordinates and find the words on this
<miss_caro> the words is the reference grid
<miss_caro> yes
<Poke> And see how that works with the other flyer
<miss_caro> and those words might be the keys for a vignere to decode the other flyer
<Poke> ... Vignere cipher?
<Poke> Yeah
<Poke> That's what I though
<Poke> t
<Poke> Wait
<Poke> One sec
<miss_caro> what?
<DWing010> "business" first part of key
<DWing010> or at least part of it
<miss_caro> ?
<DWing010> and I'll confirm a vingenere cipher
<Nadif> correct: "A man having purchased" etc.
<miss_caro> sorry, where's that part from? I've most likely missed bits
<Poke> Nadif: ...Huh?
* zomby has joined #wildfireindustries
<Nadif> AMANZHAVINGPURCHASEDACASEOFRAREZVERYEXPENSIVECIGARSZINSUREDTHEMAGAINSTZZZZGETTHISZZZZFIREZWITHINAMONTHZHAVINGSMOKEDHISENTIRESTOCJ
<DWing010> what's that word hidden by industries
<Poke> marketing
<miss_caro> nadif: the question we ask is how did you get that
<miss_caro> yeah I've heard that story - he took the insurance company to court, sued for his pay out, he won
* Bill has joined #wildfireindustries
<miss_caro> then he was arrested for arson based on his own testimony
<Nadif> using "business" as a Vignere key for the smallprint on the other poster
<sux0rbiscuit> a man having purchased a case of rare very expensive cigars ingured them against get this fire within a month having smoked his entire stock
<sux0rbiscuit> That is the level 4 answer?
<DWing010> no
<Kitten> ooh, i heard a story about that a few days ago
* Seraphina|Work is now known as Seraphina_Wildfire
<miss_caro> happened a while ago now but yeah tis funny
* IUGuest has joined #wildfireindustries
<Jules> http://www.netscrap.com/netscrap_detail.cfm?scrap_id=467
<Jules> this story?
<Kitten> yeah, he claimed them on his insurance for fire damage
<Nadif> "arson" may be the answer?
<Corla> PILEOFFABULOUSCIGARSZANDHAVINGYETTOMAKEASINGLEPREMIUMPAYMENTONTHEPOLICYZTHEMANFILEDACLAIMAGAINSTTHEINSURANCECOMPANYZINHISCLAIMZ
<miss_caro> yup
<Corla> PILEOFFABULOUSCIGARSZANDHAVINGYETTOMAKEASINGLEPREMIUMPAYMENTONTHEPOLICYZTHEMANFILEDACLAIMAGAINSTTHEINSURANCECOMPANYZINHISCLAIMZ
<miss_caro> if that's the answer then what's the point in the first two flyers?
<Jules> he also made *24* claims if you need another number (and was thus convicted 24 times Wink
<cornetchap> The thing I've missed is how we got business to be the vignere key? I guess it's related to the chess moves.
<Nadif> No idea about the chess flyer
<Poke> Chap - The chess moves correspond with words on the latest flyer
<DWing010> yes, it's the square the bishop starts at, how did we get the next part?
<Poke> Which are the keys to vignere ciphers
<cornetchap> okay, obviously need to buy a bigger screen just to see everything at once:)
<Poke> lol
<DWing010> how did we get arson?
<KnightWhoSays_Ni> funny
* IndigoFerret has joined #wildfireindustries
<Nadif> Personally I got it here: http://www.braingle.com/brainteasers/teaser.php?id=12881
<Nadif> after a quick googling
<Kitten> he set fire to the cigars on purpose after insureing them so technically it's arson, dwing
<miss_caro> arson doesn't seem to be a key, but they picked that from the story that was decoded at some point
<cornetchap> arson doesn't seem to be a directory or HTML source file on the WI site either.
<Midnight> what about 24?
<DWing010> how did Corla get the next part?
<Jules> maybe it's a key for something else?
<Nadif> arsonSPLATwildfireindustries.com ?
<Poke> Nadif: Probably right.
<Poke> http://www.forum.immersionunlimited.com/viewtopic.php?t=1012
<miss_caro> maybe we should figure out the rest of it before we start emailing people
<sux0rbiscuit> makes sense
<Corla> 'Business' key, start on the next line.
<sux0rbiscuit> because fire and arson go together
<DWing010> ahh
<Poke> Well
<Poke> Well
<ZaZen> yea, makes sense to me too
<Poke> It's looking like this puzzle and http://www.braingle.com/brainteasers/teaser.php?id=12881 are the same
<Poke> And if they are
<Poke> Then the answer is definitely arson
<Nadif> Very Happy
<DWing010> got it
<Poke> Just to clear it up if anyone's still confused
<Nadif> it's correct!!!
<DWing010> one min, I'll post on immersion
<Nadif> Firenze answered me!
<sux0rbiscuit> Sent an e-mail to arson
<Nadif> Very Happy
<cornetchap> ah, arson.php gives me a password prompt!
<Midnight> way to go! Smile
<Nadif> Very Happy
<Nadif> Very Happy
<Nadif> Very Happy
<Jules> now just a password Smile
<KnightWhoSays_Ni> really?
<cornetchap> so now we need a username and password
<KnightWhoSays_Ni> sweet
<Midnight> ooh boy
<Midnight> Smile
<sux0rbiscuit> I am not getting any e-mail from anyone today, this is lame
<Nadif> if you email it, Firenze will send you the details about the interview
<Nadif> got mine in 10 seconds - chapeau to Firenze
<miss_caro> Cornet: it's not a page. All of the pages will ask for usename and password as they are not publically viewable.
<sux0rbiscuit> My e-mail is messed up it seems like
<miss_caro> crapaaaapaapapapaapa
<miss_caro> that's tomorrow!!!!
<cornetchap> but we know there will be a page there then, as everything else came up 404
<miss_caro> what I mean to say is that it's not prudent to try and hack your way into your potential employer's site
<miss_caro> the time will come when it is time to get in there and we will be told.
<Midnight> lol
<Nadif> Very Happy
<DWing010> whoops
<DWing010> no spoiler on that post
<Corla> THEMANSTATEDTHATHEHADLOSTTHECIGARSINZASERIESOFSMALLFIRESZZTHEINSURANCECOMPANYREFUSEDTOPAYZCITINGTHEOBVIOUSREASONTHATTHEMANHADCONSUMEDTHECIGARSINANORMALFASHIONZTHEMANSUEDZZZANDWONZ

<cornetchap> okay, I haven't tried to brute force it (wouldn't know how:) )
* Bill has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 180 seconds)
<Poke> http://www.wildfireindustries.com/argargargargargargarg.php
<Midnight> what's with the zzz's?
<Poke> Z is punctuation
<Midnight> ah
<Poke> http://www.wildfireindustries.com/argargargargargargarg.php comes up as a password prompt
<Poke> lol
<Poke> I don't think that means it's there
<Poke> =P
<cornetchap> ah, bum (as my 4yr old would say)

<sux0rbiscuit> thank god
<miss_caro> hey let's not forget that they have to interview a bout 40 people
<sux0rbiscuit> Sera, are you still here?
<miss_caro> so if you're not in there immediately you won't miss out
<Seraphina_Wildfire> I'm still watching.
<Nadif> Having fun, Sera?
<sux0rbiscuit> Was that first flyer out there all along?
<Seraphina_Wildfire> All 3 were out there.
<sux0rbiscuit> or have you been toying with us?
<Seraphina_Wildfire> all 3 could have been found earlier.
<sux0rbiscuit> I wonder where
<Corla> If anyone's interested, the last key is 'secrecy'.
<Nadif> thanks Corla
