[NEWS] Puyallup WA School Dist. Shuts Down H2 Tourney

Just saw this on Fark. Seems the Puyallup WA school district has pulled the plug on a Tsunami fundraiser spearheaded by some students. The fundraiser was a Halo2 tournament. They said they hadn't realized that Halo2 was "so violent."

Quote from Karen Hanson with the Puyallup School District:
"When you look at what happened with Columbine, when you look at acts of violence against young people, I think anything we do that even looks like we're endorsing violence is not appropriate."

Um, yeah. Anyone heard of this game called football??

*sigh* Confused

I think getting picked next-to-last for kickball made me more angry/sad/frustrated/homicidal than any Halo game ever will.

Idiots.

Football is okay because crippling physical injuries and death can be inflicted on real people.

Halo 2 is not okay because crippling physical injuries and death can be inflicted on real drawings.

Doesn't that explain everything?

Bwahaha!

Yep, it's all clear now.

Geez, playing Halo makes me less homicidal than usual. Stress relief, y'know?

Shocked Ooops -- did I say that out loud?

I don't understand how rational people can be so foolish as this. For one thing, Halo 2 is a game where there is only very rarely any blood ever shown. Yes, it's violent, but it's no more violent than football or soccer. Eh, there's nothing else to really say about this.

Yes, Halo 2 and most games are not going to incite someone to commit acts of violence in real life, but must we bring football into this?

Man, I loves me some hockey. That is the only sport I will watch, and only live. None of this televised crap.

I live about 100 miles north of Puyallup.

It's a weird place. They have this fair every year that's about the most pointless and useless attraction ever.

I'm hoping you meant soccer brawls and not the sport of soccer, which is not violent. At least not compared to football ...

That's so... stupid!

We had a Halo tournament for a stage crew social -during- school. There are even some schools around here who have school endorsed video game clubs. I feel bad for the kids over there.
