I'm part of E^3 and I did my share of leaving without warning, but I'm never offline!

To be fair, I've seen this happening a lot with non-E^3 members as well ... I'll start saying at least good bye when I'm leaving a game ...

Just to clarify, the topic is a generalization of the E^3s. I did this as to not point out specific persons in this post. I understand that not all of E^3 does this but, allot that I've played have a number of times and it just gets to The Beekeepers (once again a generalization), specifically a Beekeeper I somewhat mentioned earlier that takes it particularly hard which gets me going even more so than I normally would.

EDIT: Removed the birdy.

I'd like to provide some of my own clarification - there is never a deliberate attempt to isolate groups of players when I play. I do not do that, and I don't anticipate having to do that. (ETA: the only instances were when Kristen Rutherford started playing online with people, and wanted a more controlled atmosphere. As much as some of you bitched, I would hope you'd understand that this was for her benefit, and that pretty much anyone who's been around a lot has been able to play games with her at least a bit.)

The other night? When I left? I did it for myself. I was frustrated and overwhelmed at the noise. I was annoyed at the noise that was made to get the chatty noise to die down. I was beginning to get really irritated. I created my own lobby so that I could be shown as idle or not idle. Other people immediately joined me. I do not control them. I was actually really dismayed, because I needed a few minutes to myself, and I definitely did not want to be seen as pulling people out of a game.

Whoever was there, we sat for a few minutes and just chatted quietly, and then I decided I was done with being overwhelmed for that night, and decided to appear offline. I get a lot of messages, people. I wanted a short break from them, and if that happens to hurt someone's feelings so badly that someone else needs to start a thread here in order to defend their anonymous honor, I wish they'd already just tell me, because this is ridiculous - Halo is for fun, and hell if I'm gonna let someone believe that I have in any way ruined their fun.

I know other people have said things here, and I am glad people are generally feeling better, but I am kinda cheesed off that there is this perception out there that a particular clan is evading (ha!) another clan, or that particular individuals who shall not be named (sigh!) are doing things to other players which make these other players cry.

Now, go blow some stuff up.

I guess it's time for me to weigh in as well. I apologize for my horrid explanation of how I was feeling in the lobby of the game, and sorry if it hurt anyone's feeling. I tend to be a jerk late at night. The fact of the matter is, at least on my end, when I get on Halo 2 at night, it's generally after I've had a really horrid day at work (as it was on Friday). I get online to play halo 2 to a) distance myself from "real life" by being able to focus merely on the game while in game and b) get away from the normal bickering and stress of everyday existence. And none of this is really directed at anyone, so please no one take it personally, but sometimes, when I get in a game and I hear tons of conversations on team speak about things I'm not really interested in (and I know I've participated in some of these convos in other instances, so I guess that would make me a big giant hypocrite), especially when people are disrespecting each other about various things, it gets me down, irritates me, and basically does everything that I get online to avoid. And the cacophony of yelling that generally begins to occur in the lobby in certain situations does nothing but give me a headache. I know most of these issues have been covered to death already, and I know you guys were trying hard to avoid doing "the things we've all discussed" the other night, but I guess I just wanted to explain my general inability to communicate why I tend to bow out in certain situations. I know that it was sortof impromptu agreed upon to try to message these feelings at the time, but it's difficult enough to communicate in text after the fact, much less "in person", so to speak, with a voice message. I felt it was just better I leave, instead of trying to say anything else at the time. Look, really, none of us bear any ill will to anyone else, and ESPECIALLY don't intend to hurt anyone's feelings. If we did, we wouldn't even bother with these explanations. And now, as I've realized that this whole post has done little to help

AHA, no wonder. I had thought that a bunch of you were not playing much at all lately as I never saw your tags online anymore. This explains things then .... "appear offline" huh? cool, that seems like a pretty good way to control the crazyness. Just be sure to send me an invite if you ever see me on when you are "off". Wink

Actually, I am not playing as much as I was, and I only appeared offline that one night for a little while - it was the first time I had done so in quite some time.

If y'all add me on messengers, or send me invites, I see them in MSN, so that's a good way to prompt me to log off my PC and hop over to XBL. Smile

angelo cuts through all that and just crank-calls me on my cell. jerk.

On quite a few occasions I've joined games where people are jumping around Headlong or playing zombies on Zanzibar and left because that's not what I felt like playing. Sometimes I'll leave because it's too loud and I'm getting a headache. I say goodbye before I go, and do my best to make my goodbye heard over whatever conversation is going on, and I don't feel any need to apologise for leaving.

This all seems much ado about nothing to me. There's no rule saying anyone has to play with anyone else. If people want to appear offline to get some peace and quiet, I say they're entitled to it. I've been playing custom games plenty of times and had people drop out and go off and do matchmaking by themselves, or with a small group from the current party. So what? It's not the end of the world. There's always another game another day. It's not like there's a shortage of people to play with in Halo 2.

Also, I have to agree with everyone that the room we were in was very loud. Actually, when I first joined I was surprised on just how loud it was. So, as for everyone leaving I don't blame them. I was just coupling that with past, as in a few months ago, experiences that I didn't know what had happened and received no reply or "I don't know" when I asked what had happened in those past events. Now that I've heard allot of peoples input I understand what really happened and have put the whole thing behind me because I now know that it was nothing.

One other thing I might add to this dead horses corpse, I sometimes don't get messages or invites from people at the time I was Online. they show up the next time I play. I'm not sure if I was in a game and didn't notice an incoming message or if it's an xbox live messaging problem but hopefully that hasn't made this mole hill into a mountain.

- Can Jerry come up with any more old cliches on this issue?

those dancing robots are amazing. If I didn't know better I'd say they were all CG.
