[CHAT] Neuromancer ARG?

I have absolutely no idea what this is about, if anything. I posted this on IU yesterday and thought I should post here too. Someone came into #metaunlimited around 5:30am CST (yea I should be in bed).

I played the adventure game a LONG time ago so I remember absolutely nothing ... never read the book though. I found some of these names on http://www.thiemeworks.com/write/archives/answer.htm last night.

Tessier-Ashpool be one major family owned company in the book, I forget which one. The ROm construct is the personality and memories copied form someone. Think of Max Headroom in effect.

If its an ARG, definitely count me in there!

By the way, DO read the books. Neuromancer, Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive. Collectively, they are known as the Sprawl series. There is also one short story in the same world wihch got made into a movie, Johnny Mnemonic. The movie was better than the short story, but I consider the short story to be quite weak.

the Sprawl series is amazing, Neuromancer is a true classic. The book coined a word we all use today - CYBERSPACE. just an FYI.

Yeah - all self-respecting geeks should read Neuromancer - it's a classic of the cyberpunk genre. Highly recommended.

To this day, Gibson is my fave author due to Neuromancer. It's one of the best, well rounded stories in the cyberpunk universe. It's gritty, realistic in its assumptions, and very accessible.

I would be the first to sign up for an ARG based in the Sprawl. Although I would tend to not wanna mess with actual characters, excepting maybe the AI cube of The Finn. That'd be cool. Laughing

Basically, its about real people. Not like the Star Trek or the utopian garbage you see out thereso much. Its the real world, with all the underworld, and high powred overlords.

Also the first instance (or at least the first I'm aware of) where the term 'The Matrix' is used to refer to a global network of computers. Beat the Wachowskis to it by over a decade and aside from the absence of mobile phones (or some sort of futuristic version of them - chatters?) it all seems remarkably plausible even today. Up there with Cryptonomicon for the title of top geek book IMHO (though I've recently taken to just lending people my copy of Pattern Recognition if they ask me what I'm doing on the net all the time...).
