a) types

    1. Game Altering Impact Event (i.e. LockJaw Lawsuit, Cloudmaker Nightmare Database, Direct Contact with Game Characters ala LockJaw's Barbie & Vad.)


b) advantages

    1. Increases Non-Linearity via Emergent Gameplay. Enhances Player Interaction & Overall Impact on the Game.


c) disadvantages

    1. Increases "Damage Control" Workload for PM's. Potential to destroy the Game Illusion is astronomical.


d) balancing

    1.


e) security

    1. PM's require active Damage Control team to limit potentially destructive character interaction that threatens game illusion. Direct Contact exposes the game to potentially devastating consequences.

For ZeusLegion:

Do you subscribe to using 'drop offs' in lieu of contact? What I mean is, would you enhance a player's perception by secreting some materials, to be used as clues, in an out-of-the-way spot local to that individual, then making a call or posting an e-mail to meet there. When the player shows, and you're not there, would s/he have been given enough of a hint to examine the surroundings, so s/he might find the items? It lends itself to this kind of game-play, without necessarily risking the integrity of the PM's anonymity. It just requires 'putting off' the player for a few hours or a day, then drawing the player back in when the stage has already been set.

I don't agree with you on this one. Why do you (or anyone else reading this) the potential to be "astronomical"? My experience is quite the opposite. In a truly transparent reality game, there is no opposition between "real" and "unreal".
