How is Fogo de Chao for vegetarians? The website doesn't seem to have an actual menu you can look at, but it seemed pretty meat-heavy...

Fogo de chao is almost like a Brazilian steak house! I wouldn't recommend it to vegetarians, although they have a huge self-service salad bar.

It works like this. You pay a flat fee for the food (all you can eat), excluding drinks. You have unlimited access to the salad bar with this. Then they start to serve all kinds of meat on your table. On most Brazilian "churrascarias", there's a card with one side red and the other green. When you leave on your table the green side up, they keep serving meat! When you're done, you just flip the card.

The salad bar is a lot better than most restaurants. And usually they have pasta there, like lasagna and some other stuff. I, personally, wouldn't pay to get access to the salad bar only. But then again, I'm paying for my wife that's almost a vegetarian ...

I just hate to make plans in advance and then Thursday afternoon, my boss schedules a huge important meeting (that nobody attends!) for the next morning! Office Space is sooo true ... Laughing

Well, if Kristin and I can make it up there, which I'm trying really really really really hard to make happen, than I'm definitely interested, and I think Kristin will be too. We'll most likely be there by then. I wish I could find rates as cheap as Ian and silrn's!!

i hope you guys can make it, Autumn was asking about the 2 of you!

would anyone else mind room sharing? it would nearly cut hotel costs in half if we got 4 peeps in a room instead of 2. I remember someone mentioning it before, but i don't think it went anywhere
maybe we could have a room-coordination database? (i'm probably going to kick myself for this, but:) if there's a desire, i'll create and host a system for that

Though if they have good fejoada and pao de queijo, even the salad bar would almost be worth it. Though I guess a true vegetarian wouldn't do fejoada, huh?

(fejoada = black beans and pork over rice, pao de queijo = cheese bread)

Well, myself and Silrn would be willing, if you (and Autumn?) are interested in sharing a room with 2 guys. If you aren't, I can completely understand. This offer goes out to anyone looking for a room, in fact. Just let me know one way or another, if you're interested.

she'd probably be more comfortable with another couple, but i never know with her Smile i'll ask her tonight

the only problem i'm seeing now with room sharing, is not being able to use a travel site to bundle the airfare and hotel together

Uh, yeah, weephun ... last I checked, PORK is MEAT.

It's funny, my sister calls me a "strict vegetarian" because I don't eat any meat or anything with meat broth in it. It seems to me that you either eat meat and meat-related food or you don't. I don't get "true" or "strict" or other labels that are sometimes tacked on to a word that is self-explanatory. But, hell, apparently you can call yourself a vegetarian and still eat seafood and fish. *snaps fingers* Whatevah.

pita shuts up, sits down, and eats her "vegetarian" nachos.

Fogo de Chao is not a cheap meal - At the one in Dallas, I'd say we average about $100 for a couple, with drinks and dessert. Obviously you save a bunch if you skip the booze and sugar.

I would also say that it is not very vegetarian friendly. The salad bar is Impressive, no doubt... But paying $30+ for salad seems kind of ludicrous to me.

I'm not wedded to the Fogo idea. I'd happily go someplace more vegetarian friendly.

The Fogo place may be more of a big dinner thing-

I think Chicago style pizza is fine for a lunch.

Yah, the realization came for me as I was typing, realizing I needed to explain what fejoada was, then realizing, oh yah, that has meat, huh?

Still might be worth it, just for the pao de queijo Wink Yah, my old girlfriend was one of the less "strict" vegetarians. She was OK with fish and seafood. I think she had just gotten repulsed enough by the way cattle, chicken etc. are raised and slaughtered. Maybe she figured that the fact you have to catch seafood in the wild gave them a fighting chance or something. ? who knows. I never understood. Though at the time (high-school) I think I was probably less interested in understanding and more interested in other things ... Embarassed

Whatever could you possibly mean? Interested in what other things?

<looks around innocently>

Decides against making a joke about vegetarians and sausage.

I mentioned this in the other thread but it bears repeating...

I'll be in town for Anime Central as is my tradition...so chances are good I could stop in on whatever is going on at some point in the weekend.

I'm not really seeing the whole weekend as planned out, so I am still wanting to go to Fogo de Chao on Friday lunchtime, especially since not everyone's going to be able to arrive that early. It's just lunch, too: it's not going to take forever. I can definitely recommend one (two) pizza place, though: Uno's/Due's. It's/They're right downtown, right near each other, and absolutely awesome.

Mmmm. Make sure you know what you want as soon as you get to the door at Uno's. The seating area is at a premium during a rush, and so they get your pie order, and you wait a bit before they seat you, if it's busy. I like their cheesy garlic bread, num.
