Oh, at this point, if my Bank was an English bank, I'd check it out.
Being a regional US bank I certainly think this is just coincidence.

PS: thanks for pointing out the other thread.

One last thing 'bout aadaa

The thought that AADAA might jump start a decryption of the string of numbers under the semacode, is unreasonably struck in my head.

But there is a pattern...
If D=1, A=2, X=3, U=4, R=5 and so on and so forth, counting every fourth letter, working backwards up the alphabet,
then AADAA turns out to be 2/2/1/54/54

but, *sigh* I find nothing sensible after that. Maybe someone else can?

Oh, and feel free to fish slap me if this has already been observed

well, being that this is the postcard thread, it seems the best place for me to post this.

Keep your fingers crossed, and wish me luck:
Saturday I'll be visiting 3 airports (in Florida, Georgia and California).
I'll keep my eyes open for any postcard.(*)

I'd keep my eyes open for the long number we found on the postcard, but that would require way too many eyes, sorry.

F.O.R.

(*) of course, I booked this expensive flight just to check for postcards Smile

CAUTION: Big Stretchy unlikely things ahead.

Was just fiddling with the postcard again, and it's probably nothing (I can't make anything out of it, but maybe it'll spark someone else)....but if you take the maze and assign Rights and Lefts as 1's and 0's you get as one of the possibs:

100011110001011011000011111000

Now it doesn't mean much in binary, but if you spilt it into groups of 5 and use Baudot on it you come up with:

10001 - Z
11100 - U
01011 - G
01100 - I
00111 - M
11000 - A

ZUGIMA

And I'm bringing up the following again......

Caterpillar wrote:
I found it interesting that on the postcard, www.perplexcity.com was mirrored, and just below that are the words "on reverse" (in the descrip of the frontal art).

I mean, it's not that difficult to read the www.perplexcity.com, so you have to ask yourself why mirror it? There might be a reason, clue to something else?

I dunno, just a thought.

Because if you take 221545484848465100503215 split it into groups of 4....like the "2210"

2215
4548
4848
4651
0050
3215

Add the columns.....

17 23 20 27

(Now here comes the big stretchy)

Assign letters (wrapping 27 around to "a")

You get QWTA

ROT-15 = FLIP!!!!

lol.....maybe someone can "flip" the semacode (in the same manner that the web addy is flipped? I would but don't have a clue as to how.)

Okay, someone slap me now ...

Wink

lol that is brilliant. i came to the same conclusion (though not through any such complicated thought pattern). so why doesnt someone test the semacode upside-down, and upside-down and back to front.

if this has been done, it might have been, let's dust is off some unknown thread and bring it back into the light.

ps. all of the online semacode programs ive found (all of 1) have not worked either with the scanned card or a cropped image of the semacode ( taken off the scanned card) saying the resolution? or something was unreadable.

at one point i actually thought of rebuilding the semacode in paint, black little brick by black little brick, but then we got the morse code thingy which wasted about 10 hours of my life, and after that proved fruitless, i just gave up on the semacode idea.

i would imagine everyone will kick themselves if we find out theres a website lieing dormant somewhere ready to initiate the game, and it was hidden in the postcard..... although they said they'd contact us, i don't see my email yet.. and we are in february.............. Confused

as to how to flip it, just using tracing paper wont work? dunno...

Something as simple as Paint will flip it for you.

I doubt that it will be anything since it already decodes to a nice tidy solve, the chances of it decoding once flipped are slim to nil (imo).....but you never know.

also, don't forget to invert it. Razz

however, i am also dubious - since the semacode already decodes to www.perplexcity.com, i think it is highly unlikely it will decode into something meaningful when flipped, rotated or inverted.

besides, all that decoding meantioned above sounds like fun (if you are into that kind of thing), and i don't really know a lot about cryptography, but imho the example illustrates perfectly that you can get any number of possible solutions if you just keep going and using different techniques over and over again until you find "something". I never said I thought it was worth much......

But the Baudot bugs me (just a little Wink ).....it's a perfectly reasonable method for decoding the maze, and comes up with a word that seems to have a perfectly reasonable english letter frequency type thingy going on (as far as consonant/vowel placement).

None of the strings came up as blanks or spaces, nor did it come out looking like XCIUFD.....

Not that it means a damn thing, I just want it to......lol

That being said, ZUGIMA still means NADA.....

EDIT** - This is stupid.....lol....I'm sure it's nothing. Inverting the strings gives COSBAM....also reasonably littered with english letter frequency.

Oh well, gave me something to do for awhile : )

I was just about to post the same, you got there first by a whisker! I tried combining the two and anagramming and came up with nonsense (BAGS COMMA UZI...Sente is a paramilitary grammarian? MUCOSA MAG BIZ...He's in porn?). This can't be nothing, even if it is only anther link to perplexcity.com. The Firebox ad directed to both the website and unforum...could this be a crib?

Is there a system similar to Baudot, but based on 6 digits which would also fit nicely? Very Happy

Mikey

[EDIT]

Found this http://tinyurl.com/6kfln on BCDIC, but incapable of making head nor tail of it. Anyone? Dunce

Hoookay, quick and easy this one; tried the semacode inverted vertically, horizontally and vertically and horizontally at the same time. If only one reflection has been performed on it then I get an error in the Intelcom tool (mentioned in the tools thread and on the Wiki) that says 'Too many errors in Reed-Solomon code !' I assume that this is because the spec for semacodes states that the bottom and left (or any rotation of this, but I'll get to that...) edges of the square must be solid black.

Interestingly, flipping vertically and horizontally (same as rotating through 180 degrees) does work and still points to perplexcity.com - presumably the system is robust enough to cope with the datamatrix not being perfectly aligned. I checked this by rotating it through 90 degrees and still got the same result.

Lastly, if you're having trouble reading the datamatrix you need to crop it with a little white space (approx the width of 4 or 5 of the little squares) around the matrix. Without the white space it won't work and if you just have the whole card it's not too hard to see why it won't work either.

Thanks Seej, didn't think anything would come of it, but appreciate your effort.
