Email from Phyllis SHE WANTS TO HELP

Dear Sunny One,
I don't want you to take this the wrong way. I am so grateful to you for being my friend through all of this and I feel as though we have formed a bond – person to person – so that it will be, hopefully, all right for me to say something that has occurred to me in the past couple of days. You see, I've been getting emails from new people who introduce themselves by saying I'm a friend of Sunny's or someone else who has previously emailed me. One person mentions email from Wes Keeler; another mentions email from Agatha Dobbs. And now, in your email, you refer to your "internet community" and I'm getting this idea that you all know each other! You are all part of some kind of group, aren't you? There are these "dead-eyed guys." I've seen them. And, now you tell me there are "Guides." I haven't seen them. And, then, there is some kind of virtual community to which you belong. What do you call yourselves? Are you the "Observers"? Are you part of a Wes Keeler fan club? Or have you all, for reasons I don't understand, decided to watch the people who live in this town. You were writing to me before the graffiti occurred so you aren't simply paranormal investigators like the EOS people. No, you started writing after Diana died, didn't you? Is this about Dale Sprague?! Is Dale the center of this web of events?!! Please don't take offense or think that I'm saying I don't want to be led forward by your group. I am hoping you will tell me exactly what your interest is. Part of me is feeling a bit manipulated by people who know more about what's happening around me than I do. When I think back over our relationship I feel that we have developed genuine affection for each other and so I trust you. I believe that whatever your interest may be, it is centered on doing something good. Oh, this is going to sound pathetic – Can I join in the effort? All of you have been so supportive of me and I would like to support whatever you are doing. Oh dear, I feel like I did in college waiting to be tapped for initiation into a sorority.

I need to go now. Iris Page and her crew are due to arrive this afternoon. The house has been awfully quiet this morning and is getting really warm. Damn those boojums! I think they know she's coming and have gone into hiding! I'll write to you tonight and tell you all about it.

Anxiously,
Phyllis
