Is anybody else bored?

Seems like we've had a lot of games die out rather quickly recently, Lenny's Xanga being the most recent. But we've had Pandora Next, Channel 51, Neurocam (If it was a game, but I'm not so sure). Then we have Perplexcity starting anyday now, but that's not really good enough. What I'm trying to get at is, is that I'm really annoyed at these stupid games and am bored out of my mind waiting for the next game to start.

Well, I hear Daemonworks is pretty cool.

And, really, it's the beginning of the year, -midterm season- as well, and the historically off-season for complex ARGs.

Until then, you can play with all the time-wasters (that's what they're there for, after all) or, you know, leave.

Things oughta pick up in 2 months or so, when people get more time to do stuff and a lot of players are free.

Patience is a virtue, as somebody once said.

Heh, I like how we're getting to a point where there's a feeling of ARG 'seasons.'

I know, even way back during Lockjaw, we worried over when to launch and how long to run the game, based on the time of year and who our player base would turn out to be, but it's sorta neat to have there be sort of a general 'feel,' now, for when people tend to be busy, or need downtime from a particularly large project ending.

ARGs come in four distinct seasons:

    1. Big-ass game launch season
    2. Mass panic as everyone and their brother signs up and floods the forums season
    3. Billions of little tiny ARGlets launch in response to the popularity of season #1 season; and
    4. Sit around and bitch about being bored season.

It is pretty cool. And it's been going on for a few months with updates every few days or so. Even so, there are still lots of little things that are unsolved or at least seem to be. Right now, we've currently discovered a whole new website, so it seems as if the game might be revving up again - if only we could figure out what to do with it. Very Happy

Usually that is when you start to develope your own ARG.

That's the breaks with a "live" event. If the Star of the show falls into the orchestra pit and there is no understudy, then the curtain comes down early. At least with ARG's you don't have to yell at the management to get your money back.

Also, from what I can tell, this is the first time in a long time (back me up kids, I haven't been here long enough to say this with gusto!) that there have been so many games promised... it's a growing genre and a very interesting time for the ARG movement (argment? Rolling Eyes ) While I definitely understand the frustration with games starting up cool then petering out...

Well, I guess the point is, be glad that we have Perplex City to look forward to. There was a good what, month or two between ILB ending and the next semi-arg starting in earnest... but like Ozy mentioned, there's pretty much this whole "Wow, that was the coolest ARG ever... I'm not going to get as involved again, though... cuz that was intense and I (almost?) lost my job(/wife/kids/elephant/hookah)..." and then a week passes, and the adrenaline goes down, and everyone starts panting, drooling, and saying "when's the Next Big ARG?" (NBARG!)

So I understand the sentiment, but there will be more ARGs... and like Magesteff said... if you're not happy waiting, make something to play! Everyone will enjoy it greatly!

Unless it sucks, of course.

Then people will hate you, and hunt you for sport.

Ours only lasted a month, couple of people, a nice fun time. Ohwell.

The Perplex I am beginnign to drift away from. Not a single peep, and when you fill the time discussing old pictures, you KNOW its a wall or a dead end. Would be nice for it to actually START....
