Okay, put me down as a probable for attending. I just have to put in for the time off at work

Now, can anybody make any recommendations regarding hotels? Preferably near the train station... and near the $100/night mark if possible.

Thank you both. My insurance company, who are some of my favorite people in the world right now, is giving me only $900 less (and that's including my $500 collision deductible) than I paid for the car (used) 2 1/2 years ago (and 40,000 miles ago!), and they're paying me for lost wages (now I just have to get HR to agree to let me take the time I missed as unpaid, rather than using up my sick time), and even mileage to and from the health care practitioners I've seen. So, considering most of the settlements other people have told me they've gotten for cars the same age as mine were in the $1-2000 range, even though all three of their type of cars were selling for around $10,000, I am very pleased and filled with affection for my insurance agent. "In good hands," indeed.

They've just been amazing. They've handled pretty much everything -- took my statement verbally and filled out all the forms for me. They came and towed it away today, which was hard for me (I loved it so much) and the agent called soon after to make sure that they had come to pick it up. I said yes, and then had to stop myself from crying, so he told me that it wasn't going to a junkyard -- there was a dealership that wanted it for parts, so it would be like an organ donor. That made me laugh and feel a lot better. Even the tow man was really nice.

I have no clue if it's actually true, but I'll just let myself believe that it is, because it makes me smile.

Anyway, the nice settlement makes the prospect of finding something else I'll like appear a lot less dire. So I'm feeling quite a bit more optimistic now, since financially I came out way ahead of where I expected to be.

So, things are looking up. Very Happy

I am even now able to feel slightly sorry for the moron who hit me. He doesn't have insurance, and his car was crushed.

That's important. Whether or not it's true, it's important that you believe it. Belief is more important than people realize sometimes, I think.

Even when I'm fairly sure my old car went to a junkyard, I still believe that someone bought it and gave it a loving home.

Thank you for your support, everyone. Smile

Now, just have a few more things to take care of, then hopefully on to happier things, like the Hivemeet!

Well, I still have not seen you say anywhere what kind of car it was, but as someone who trolls the junkyards often I assure you that it is rare for a car to go direct to scrap.

Is anyone here going to the U2 concert on May 12th?

I used to be a big fan, not so much now. But it should still be a great concert! Problem is tickets are pretty much sold out ... Sad I'm watching ebay now!

In Chicago? Hrm... that'd be a lot of fun.

Let me know if you manage to come across some good tickets, and I'll talk to Silrn about going. Although ticket prices are likely to be outrageous, so I'm guessing it's going to be a tad too much for my blood.

However, somethign to note. I've noticed that Ticketmaster will sometimes keep tickets in reserve until the day of the concert, or the day before. It might be worth checking out to see if they release any then. Of course, for a U2 show, this would be pretty silly, but it's worth a gander, at least.

Not likely, it's a certain fact!! Well, considering Fogo de Chao plus this, this trip is getting way way over budget! And I've been to their concert before, back in Brazil ...

I'm watching some tickets on ebay right now, but it might too much for me as well ...

Although I could probably splurge on it, I don't know. I think I will probably be running around that whole week like a chicken with its head cut off.
