Yeah Elan!! Thanks for posting that Steve. Elan Lee and everyone involved in this game deserves the award. I thought that ilovebees wouldn't even be discussed as this conference!! Not only is it going to be discussed, it is going to be honored with an award for innovation in a field filled with innovative thinkers.
Congratulations to all of them.
Steve, take Elan to dinner with you guys in San Francisco. Take pictures! Buy him drinks! Buy all of the 42 people dinner and drinks from us, I'll gladly contribute.

$195.00?!?!? You tell us this 5 days after the price goes from $150 to $195 to see the awards ceremony?!??! I think you just became our official documentarian.
Are cameras allowed at the ceremony? and will you be taking lots of pics for us? and will you be nudging Elan toward the Valve guys (who are nominated for a ton of awards, it seems)?
Damn. It is only money right? What are the chances of getting to see two of my favorite game designers win awards again.....Are tuxes mandatory??

I was asked to pass along the following for Sean Stewart:

I hope that the player community for ILB also recognizes that they have a part share in this award, and in a way that (I think at least) is different from the role of the dudes playing GTA. Y'all co-created the game: you co-share in the award.

Well I'm calling dibs on it for Sundays then.

My only problem with all of this is that Cory Doctorow is also an online friend. He was very instrumental in bringing about the gameneverending, which is/was my other online addiction! He's up for the same award.

Getting considered for a major award is not really a problem, in my book.

Nope, he's actually up for the Nebula award along with Sean Stewart, not this IGDA Innovation award. So you're safe to celebrate in this thread at least, guilt-free!

Well, I still owe an explanation to a certain border guard in North Dakota... the award might help if I ever want to be allowed back into the You Ess of Aye.

innovation award My understanding was that Elan Lee had already been announced (maybe informally) as the winner of the innovation award. I thought this is a special award, like the lifetime achievement awards given to actors or directors. Did I miss something?
Anyone else think that we are about to be (in the next year or so) buried with an avalanche of ARGs? The StillLife ARG (which has just begun) expressly mentions the Beast and ilovebees in their press release. The Urns game managed to combine some of the ARG storytelling with a contest and marketing campaign. Neither of these were TINAG exactly - but the concept of marketing stuff through ARG like games has clearly taken hold.
With this award bringing an awareness of ARGS to the game developer community, I think that the storytelling -art aspect of ARGs will also be taking off.
I can't wait.

That's exactly it, Rose. This is one of those awards Elan can just show up to receive, instead of sitting there biting his nails, similar to the Lifetime Achievement Oscar®.
This is indeed absolutely great for Alternate Reality Gaming. That they would recognize ILB in the midst of what is mostly a PC/Console Gaming event is outstanding.
