Most pages of Perplex City don't contain the following in their source code, but some do. It stands out. I am wondering if it is just computer code, or if it MEANS something . . .

"-//W3C//DTD HTML 3.2 Final//EN"

And then the Marchant page contains, including the quotes:

"-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
"DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"

Yes, your first comment is right Smile it's just computer code. Those are HTML definitions which define the syntax of the HTML code itself used in the page. I'd agree that it's entirely not anything relevent to the game, just standard web design.

And, most importantly, the "spacer image" is given the div id (is this a name?) furniture. Does any of this mean something? I am pretty sure the furniture thing does, for it is out of the ordinary (it seems like a name, for the marchant pic is given the nickname marchant)
This furniture thing could, however, be a term that is similar to the term spacer, but I don't want to believe that.

'spacer' is a common name for a simple 1x1 transparent gif that many web developers (and programs) will use in order to 'space' out objects on the page to exact positions... I personally use blank.gif, but a coworker of mine prefers spacer.gif.

As for furniture, that's a topic of it's own that's also being discussed in various threads in this forum; don't be afraid to do a search Wink

actually

in this case, spacer is the image that you see if you print, but not on screen. its the same image, but darkened, with text over it, sending you to the errorlogs.

pen, you're right of course... I skipped looking at the source again for that post, just took to answering the 'spacer.gif' question Smile in this case, yeah, spacer.gif (rather, the furniture div layer) isn't displayed on screen, and the 2 stylesheets defined earlier on the page tell the browser what to do when the page is displayed in the browser and printed. In this case, when printing, hide the marchant div layer and display the furniture layer, which includes the spacer.gif which is the 'special' version of the visible marchant148.gif.

perhaps they named it spacer.gif just to throw people off initially Razz

With the release of the video, I've decided I should probably catch up on things over here just in case the launch is immenent.

So, I looked over the beginners thread, read the wiki and the primer and just want to know: Is that it?

I mean, the primer contains about 10 minutes worth of information, yet there are over 3700 posts here. Are the wiki/primer missing huge chunks of information, or is the forum just a result of people having too much time on their hands? Is there some post somewhere in the mass the forum has become that I absolutely postively have to read to know what's going on? Or can I just skip them all, and rest comfortably in the knowledge I've gleaned from the primer. (Oh, and no need to give me a "well, if you want to avoid a trout, you should read everything" answer. I'm pretty good with the search function.)

So, if there is something that is a must to read, lemme know. Otherwise, I'm going to chalk up the majority of the posts here to boredom and skip them.

Well, before the video we had the postcard, the firebox ad, the sites, and, um, that's pretty much it for in game. Yes, we may have been overanalysing this just a bit.

Though if you can make any sense of the number 221545484848465100503215 that'd be nice Wink

EDIT:
The other directories that we know about don't show any sign of being updated but the root of the site says it was updated Wednesday at 4 mins to midnight. Since the video went up before this then maybe there's something else to find, though I've tried the usual tricks of ctrl-A, viewing source and tabbing through links and can't see anything......
