To anyone looking for international newspapers (USA Today in Britain, The Times in USA) it's worth checking out your local Borders. I say 'local', they're not quite as proliferous on this side of the pond. The Redmond Borders certainly carried The Times and The Sun occasionally though with an understandable few days' lag in between. I've seen USA Today in quite a few London newsagents, street vendors, and will check out Borders later for reference.

Distance need not be a barrier Smile

Video chopped to contain the driving sequence as a solid block; nothing seems to come from it though :/

ED2> BT Tracker fixed. The below link is direct, but please use bittorrent if you can ^_^

direct link, likely to be slow as fsck. Mirrors appreciated.

woot. got the email as well

saw sente in my inbox, and the heart went thumpathumpa, the spleen tightened up, the glands above my kidney started leaking that white gold into my system, and i swear, for a moment, i felt a hand on my shoulder and that whisper in my ear, "Wake up watson, the game is afoot."

wooooohooooooooo!

okay, first thing first. spacing. weve got three right off the bat on the papers. one is todays, which is also when the email went out. its another recruitment ad. now, we have a five day pause till the next paper. then a one day pause. lets keep track of those pauses as we fill in the blanks. on the speech, they have the same history, but different lessons learned? the time scale doesnt match. they may be from an alternate reality, but its LATER there than here. i get the feeling we might get articles from THIER versions of these papers, and the differences will be important.

also, i note that all the papers mentioned are big ones, ones that tend to be sent out to lots of places. they also are all papers that tend to be a bit centered, politically, rather than shifted to the right. that last may not be important, but lets watch the big ones, and list them here so people can watch. off the top of my head, the wall street journal, the globe and mail. any others??

and shish, the torrent is working for me.

Has anyone else looked at the relationship of the dates to our actual calendar and tried to figure out the black screens that way?

Feb 17- Thur
Feb 22- Tue
Feb 23- Wed (UK paper)
(blank)
(blank)
Mar 8- Tue
(blank)
(blank)
(blank)
(blank)
Mar 21- Mon (UK paper)

It almost feels like it wants to fit into a Tue/Thurs pattern, with the exception of the UK papers. Maybe the US papers only run classifieds on Tues/Thu and UK runs on Mon/Wed? I'm not sure. But I'd imagine that we could expect at least two "occurances" of some kind each week until the 21st of March. Does anyone know of any significance to any of the dates that we've been given? The only one I'm coming up with is March 8th- "International Women's Day" which is fab and all, but I highly doubt has anything to do with the game. Smile

(Forgive me for any rambling-- I'm sick at home with fever-addled brains today.)

Just an idea, but has anyone mapped out the blank spaces with major newspapers? They might be arranged in some kind of logical progression (locations moving eastward, it appears) and we'd have something to watch for in between the dates already mentioned.

EDIT: Most US newspapers run classifieds everyday, but only do updates to classifieds on Monday and Wednesday.

Finding the dates and locations of more newspaper ads might give us something to solve, with the relations to the dates Sente gave us.

The location progression might work, if it were not for the London Times breaking it up. There wouldn't be a logical East->West progression if we keep that one in there.

I'm not counting the USA Today, because it isn't really a city newspaper. Starting from the Sun, moving East, it could hit London and wrap around the globe, coming back to LA and Canada (Times and Guardian, respectively) and still have enough major cities with newspapers between London and LA.

It's probably wild Spec, but I just want a puzzle to solve.

Ok, big DUH for me. I'm confusing East/West again. Nevermind.

Aren't there rules against playing ARG's while sick? No? There should be.

Re: Location of Video Footage

From the threads I understand that we think we know where the footage was shot..... roughly....

In the video, when the camera turns left, just before it turns back there is a white on red sign, the phone number is almost readable, I am trying to enhance it now not doing too well.... anyone else give it a shot?

Hey, been reading the forum for a while, now it's time to contribute..

the phone number as i've read the top one as 03-3301-5622 and the bottom as 03-3301-5621.. I don't think they're relavant but still..

Well, we could use them to find the address of the building (assuming they're even related to the building they're on), and that would confirm kelsey's theory that the film is on koshu-kaido street.

Has anyone tried ringing the numbers? And what service do you use to establish an address from a phone number?
(Ello by the way, first post here.)

Your avatar is quite surreal.

One uses a reverse-lookup service to get the numbers. I honestly have no idea where you'd go to do that, especially with Japanese numbers, but I'm sure there's a website for it somewhere. As for ringing them, I don't know who here speaks fluent Japanese. Besides, they're almost certainly out-of-game, and oblivious to this entire ARG thing.

You're probably right. I don't think my brain is working today -- although I had guessed they would probably be out of game I hadn't thought about the fact they would be speaking Japanese *slaps head*.

Probably not much help (I never was good at this sort of thing), but searching for "the cube" on USAToday.com brings up this article.

What the heck? Why would someone ask USA Today that anyways?

<science geek> OTOH the article does point out some interesting postulations about gravity and such on a cube earth. </science geek>
