[OOG] PERLplexcity.com website

Hey all

This is just a place to put all the stuff that relates to the website www.perlplexcity.com (note the typo!!) It was printed this way in the online edition of USA Today on the 17th Feb 2005. The following day, a website appeared at this address.

Here's the information that's been collected about the site so far....

GANOTME = NOT IN GAME
It's an anagram of NOT GAME and the word NOT appears inside the word GAME (GA-not-ME)

The binary code translates to TYPO

The ellipsis (...) leads to the perplexcity site.

There are additonal pictures to be found in the /images directory.
http://www.perlplexcity.com/images/misc1.jpg to misc6.jpg

As of now, nobody knows what "aairmover" refers to.

[Edit - Changed topic from UPDATE to OOG - Fi]

recent findings show that misc1 to misc5 the images are stegged with jphide.

Code:

The stegdetec process terminated. Some files may not have been analysed. Starting stegdetect with -tjpoi -s2.000
detection jphide (***)

we definitely need someone to break them. Smile[/code]

Perlplexcity.com wasn't a website as of the printing of the USA Today so I'm a bit wary of this site. Still, it's a bit of fun so I'm playing with it. Not totally convinced it's from our PMs though. Maybe I'm being just a bit too paranoid.

When we found the online ad we tried to go to perlplexcity.com and found it wasn't there. It could have simply been uploaded afterwards... but I'm just wary is all, don't mind me.

*sips on Ramen Noodles*

Edit: Not to naysay mind you, I'm having just as much fun as you all messing with the site.

I'm sure this is way too simple, but could "aairmover" be an anagram? I'm too fried to look through the whole list right now. I'll check it again in the morning if nobody has figured it out by then.

This is a bad site for a person with insomnia to discover... Shocked

Guys,

This site is definitely out of game, and probably created by the same breed who put the cube on eBay. Please take it with a pinch of salt, and don't waste too much time trying to figure out that anagram. I've been trying to get the whois info, but it must be so freshly registered that the whois server hasn't got a record for it yet.

Perlplexcity was a typo on the online version of the ad, and was not replicated in the print version.

Fi

Although prudent to be skeptical, I wouldn't neccessarily discount this as not coming from the PMs. Could be something as simple as damage control. I'm not sure how large this game's audience will end up being, but there's bound to be more audience luring and participation than what we'll neccessarily see here at Unf.

Ergo a simple site put up to redirect anyone who may have seen the online ad and ventured to the wrong site would plug that hole.

Simple it is indeed. The HTML doesn't remind me of anything we've seen before in game. So it would make sense if it was slapped together quickly after they'd noticed the typo. I still think it's OOG though. Interesting little diversion, but I doubt anything in this site is going to be canon.

So, about those photos; I was messing around with them in photoshop, when I hit upon the idea of stacking them all on top of each other and seeing if they did anything interesting when combined or applied to each other as filters. I put the one from the main page on the bottom, and put the other five on top, and I tried various layer modes. When I set them all to Hue, I got some odd results. The pattern of squares doesn't make sense to me, but it also definitely does not look random. Of course, it's almost four in the morning, so I am quite possibly just hallucinating. Take a look and tell me what you think?

my guess is that the "aairmover" is another word play used as a signature...

that is,
a air mover == a fan

Has anyone noticed the link to the background image is broken?

It is
/templates/templates2/background.jpg

while all the other template images are at

/templates/template2/
