[OT/INFO] Avant Game in Los Angeles on March 3rd

That's right: One of the PMs, our very own Jane McGonigal (a.k.a. Dana), is taking a brief break from her extensive Northern California lecture circuit to come down to Southern California and run a game on Thursday evening, March 3, 2005, at the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Beekeepers are invited! The details:

Jane wrote:
I'm coming down to LA next month to do an art game event for the LA Museum of Contemporary Art, and I thought you might want to come play with me. Smile

It's going to be Thursday evening at a special downtown LA MoCA event for a new art/technology journal called Vectors... the event is 7 - 10 PM, and my partner-in-crime Julian Bleecker and I are going to be running a series of stealth missions in and around the grounds. It's a high-tech adventure... people will be stalking a mobile 802.11b transmitter (a guy with his own little island internet in his backpack!) with wi-fi enabled laptops, rooting around files on his server, and taking and uploading digital photos... we provide all the equipment. Each mission takes 15 minutes, people can go more than once if they want... also, there will be other new media installations, a 1-hour lecture, food and drink, that sort of thing. It's free as far as I know!

I'd love to have your participation and feedback; it's definitely more of an art game than an ARG-game, but hopefully fun and mischevious enough to be worth your while. And I know the for sure that the game would be better for your playing it!

I'm gonna post this exchange, too, just because it gave me the biggest laugh I've had in weeks:

Jane wrote:
whoops! lol. ummm yes it's a puzzle. and the solution is:

Thursday March 3
in
beside
....

If that doesn't remind you why you want to be there, I don't know what would.

Wow, this sounds like a lot of fun! Especially the high-tech wireless angle.... Curse my inflexible full time job! Evil or Very Mad

wow, and more play

Hey Shad0, thanks for posting this!! Very Happy
It truly will be a better game by far to have a few of you guys doing the Place Storming. Show 'em how it's done!

and if the LA MoCA game goes well, hopefully there will be some more, e.g. in NYC and SF. Ranger D is definitely going to do some Wi-Fi stalking here in SF, I can tell!

Rumor has it that Jane will also be coming to The Biggest Littlest State in the Union (Rhode Island) in late March/early April to present at Brown University. I'm going to do my best to be there. I'll post more details as I get them.

Excuse me?
With certain noteworthy exceptions, of course.
