[Puzzle] /ace [solved] Update to /chaton page, everyone. Looks like tonight's puzzle is at http://www.againstthewillofgod.com/ace/
Let's get solvin'.
Update -
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The card hand displayed there is aces and eights, for anyone who didn't know that.
Edit - Which is saying a lot. Boof. Sorry, aces and eights are the Dead Man's Hand that Bill Hickok had when he was shot while serving as sheriff of the South Dakota town Deadwood.
Update -
Once again, team work has lead to an excellent solve. The out-of-the-park kudos go to nadif(in IRC) and to prism here on the forum.
Good job all!

also just noticed that there is backwards text behind not a bad hand, cant read it yet
edit: ive got it, it says
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

sounds like either a movie quote, or we need a hand that beats it like 3 of a kind i believe is the next highest above two pair ace high
Description
you can see the backwords text a little more clearly now, sorry just a quick job with paint, im sure someone with photoshop could do better

It's a terrible hand. Not only is it the Dead Man's Hand, but nobody with four cards wins in a game of five card draw.
The last card to the Dead Man's Hand is not verified, but apparently it's either
Five of Diamonds
Nine of Diamonds
Queen of Clubs
King of Spades
In order of Credibility, according to rec.gambling.poker FAQ

The numbers are
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
octal (base 8 ).
Converting octal in ascii gave us:
"who holds me?"

All right, IRC has gotten pretty far. Still, like last night, we've stalled again.
NightmareTony realized that...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the numbers were octal numbers. More specifically ASCII characters rendered in octal. Translating the numbers back into characters we got the phrase
Who holds me?
The historical answer to that is Wild Bill Hickok.
IRC has tried a number of possibilities centered on this guy, but we haven't been able to figure out a link.
Edit- Sorry, nadif. Simulpost I guess.

damn I've been pounding away at this with my bro on all possibilities....maybe Wild bill had another name, James Butler Hickok doesn't work in any combination. Maybe someone else experienced this hand.

It kind of looks like the 5th card is partly visible on the left, you can see the edge of it. The 4 possibles are
Five of Diamonds
Nine of Diamonds
Queen of Clubs
King of Spades
Apologies if this has been seen before, I just picked up this thread today

At least now we have the next log. A personal spec is about HIM dsrawing up a device to unshackle her spirit. Spec is that its the communicator for Syn to talk to all of us. Ecce is in charge of it all, which is why sdhe monitors the conversations.

very well done everyone! good solve!
the "unshackle Synagoga's chains" thing reminded me of the last chat where syn said of her new friend "She said that names restrict oneself".
[spec]...
i think that this new friend may be the way that They and The Man seek to increase Syns powers. Perhaps also, the new friend is Ecclesiastia, as Ecc doesnt show up, and the new friend appears , and the log file asks if ecc wants to be the one, to do this.

What about the "Who holds me?"
Is there a reason for this?
