FPS Master

Works great. I used it for about a year and loved it. Only downsides: analog sticks are a little twitchy making aiming slightly more difficult, expect to buy a new one about every 6 months as the triggers are pretty cheap and break, though it does look like it's a new design so maybe they've fixed that problem.

I find that a modified method of holding the controller helps here. I pull the triggers with my middle fingers instead of the pointers. Then the pointer is free to stretch over and push the B and A buttons. X and Y are still a bit out of reach, though my fingers are stubby so that might not be the case with everybody.

I've actually switched over to the "punchy" configuration. Just switches melee and grenade. Left trigger still fires your left weapon when dual weilding.

My controller setting is "Green Thumb," because as a few people can tell you I'm a melee fiend. The problem with the default setup is that you have to reach over to hit punch, meaning you're staring straight ahead through the duration of the blow, and as a result not nearly as accurate. "Green Thumb" swaps the scope and melee buttons, so it's really easy to aim and deck somebody at the same time.

Green Thumb

I like that....It is difficult to get used to it, but I think it will be good.

At least til I get a custom controller. Wink

Yeah, I use middle fingers as well! Specially with pistols! I just can't fire fast enough with my pointers ....

Like Dasro, I've been superbusy lately and just can't find time to connect. I'll do my best to be on tonight though. Hope to see some of you online!

I appologize to all of those who sent me invites last night that I declined or did not respond to. I was with a group of friends and we were on a roll. I look forward to kicking butt with all of you on Thursday night!

How funny. I tried random matchmaking for the first time by myself yesterday, and had no idea this was going on. Not that I would have won...

Speaking of which, I am a little annoyed. I played 2 games yesterday....was getting my butt kicked in both games....but the people I was playing against quit part way through the match. So I WON. Normally that wouldn't be a problem, but I don't really want my rank going up if I don't deserve it. Especially considering that as it goes up, people will start wondering why this guy with a decent rank stinks so bad.

speaking of which, does anyone know if there is any way to get a modified xbox controller with the buttons in a more reasonable configuration? How am I supposed to clobber some guy if I have to take my thumb off the look stick to do it?

If anyone wants to help me out with training tonight, I'd sure appreciate it...

Ariock, although I'm not a great player myself, I'll be happy to join you for some training - I need practice too.

In the meantime, here are a few suggestions.

1. Learn how to handle each weapon AND weapon combos. For example, it's very useful to know that the overcharged plasma pistol shot will drop your opponent's shields, and that a well-placed shot or two with a human weapon (BR, Magnum, or SMG) will kill them quickly.

2. Get to know the MP maps. Find where the choice weapons spawn, figure out where the good ambush points are, and know how to get from one place to the other.

3. Work on your aim. Players who land more shots than I do (see the ending scoreboard) almost always beat me. Really use the reticle for better aim - when it's red, FIRE!

There are lots of other things you can do to elevate your game, but work on these basics and you should be having fun quickly.

EDIT: Here's a Google Groups thread with some good tips: http://tinyurl.com/4eynp

Sorry

I need to apologize to everyone last night especially my teammates. My wife is having her wisdom teeth removed today so everyone kept calling the house to wish her luck. Since she was already asleep, I was trying to answer and talk on the phone while playing. This led to a lot of deaths and not much help to my team during the neutral bomb game. I finally got frustrated and cancelled out of the game Embarassed . I didn't mean to be rude and hopefully I didn't offend anyone. Hopefully the next time I can be more attentive and actually enjoy the experience because I do miss playing with fellow beekeepers.

Yeah, I'm sorry about that, you guys. If I'd known how bothered you guys were getting I would've cut the game short and gone to something more fun.

Hey, don't worry about it Kaber. I woulda lightened up a bit if I'd known what it was doing to morale. And I don't feel quite as proud of my kill count, knowing now how distracted you were. Wink

And Coffee Jedi, sorry for kinda ditching you last night. I got into the other game and sent you an invite right away, but before you could get in they started a clanmatch. I tried to tell them you were coming too, but I guess they didn't hear me. They kinda had their hearts set on doing a major clanmatch. On the bright side, that was the game where we met The Bees Knees, but I do feel bad about leaving ya' hangin.

lmao, it's a mistake we make every single time. Be fair, though, we've all done it.
