So now we know that Clea's also changed in the course of the experiment, something that was suspected earlier and which would explain some of Clea's remarks from her e-mails.

This would either mean that Him is leading a group of technicians (They?) that has done the surgery and are overlooking the experiment or that Him has supernatural powers.

good point bartmans. i now think the new friend IS ecc, there connected in the same world as syn.

i think the idea that "Him" is God is interesting. was reading forums about Constantine. basic idea was, why did God allow this to happen? Answer was if i recall correctly, that even that really bad stuff, must in some way be in Gods plan.

The solve -- no problem, should've thought of that earlier.

The numbers in each row/column indicate how many blanks in the column should be colored in. The middle column, for example, indicates "31 11" -- meaning that there is a solid row of 31 blocks somewhere in that column, then at least one blank space, and then a solid row of 11 blocks. There can also be blanks at the beginning and end -- all that is indicated is the number of solid blocks, and the order in which they occur. "1 1 1 1 1" would mean that there are 5 single colored blocks in the row, and each one has at least one space separating it from the others.

That's how the puzzle is done, in theory.

The key to actually solving this puzzle is in seeing that the only unique column is the middle -- 31 11. After that, they're symmetrical about that column - the column to the right is the SAME as the column to the left. This lets us fill in the middle easily enough, since a row that contains "1 1" MUST not have any blocks in the middle filled in, or it would not be symmetrical. This helps us place the 31 and 11. Single digit rows are easy, after that, since they're just symmetrical about the middle column, as are all the "middle" numbers, like the 5 in "1 3 5 3 1".

It does also require a bit of a leap of faith -- there are a couple of different ways in which the "1 1 1" and "1 1" and "2 2" columns in the middle and the end could be aligned, so I chose the design that seemed most aesthetically appropriate and tested it for consistency.

And got the answer.

Print out ortho's inverted graphic if you want to try it yourself -- these are great puzzles, that one was just HUGE. I doubt there will be more, but it never hurts to be prepared!

I missed that puzzle entirely, but it was damn fun to try and solve. I gave up in the end, but it was good trying. What time is the chat tonight? It's midnight now and I'm not tired, so I think maybe I could catch it.

We don't actually know when they happen, do we? I mean, it's just sometime in the evening, and sometimes not at all, right?
(I'm hoping I didn't miss something - the Greek text on chaton doesn't change, does it? It would be awesome if it redirected to "chatoff" on no-chat nights)

Why would it do that? "Chaton" has nothing to do with "chat" (at least the English word), it's French for "kitten". To quote another (non-ARG) forum I frequent, "Read or the owl will EAT you!"
