...Or maybe the cube is an incubator for Sente and Sarahs unborn baby!?!

...Who is also the heir to the PPC throne!?!

...And if not found will result in an evil-time-shift-thing whereby our two universes colide ending in death and the destuction to both dimensions!?!

...or maybe I'm getting carried away Smile

Quite clearly the cube is something fun that he found in a car boot sale. Turned out to be a trans-dimentional co-ordinator thingy and Senete accidentally sent it here.

If i find it, im keeping it.

On January 16th, 2004, the (insert word here?) Cube was stolen.

Just some back info on their system: Error 409, shown by spacer.gif, is where a path has no file for destination: pretty much their version of 404. This error, the spacer.gif not being found, was stored in the temporary directory (tmp) of whichever computer the error is logged in, perhaps a status computer, in the directory of the "httpd" (link) designated folder, indicating that the error of not finding spacer.gif occured on a httpd server. This error was stored in the errorlog.

By the other messages stored in the errorlog, it looks like all those emails that were sent were redirected there because the httpd server is down. Or, they got through, and were directed there anyway due to an error in the errorlogging process itself.

Gatehouse 24 is the only Gatehouse we know of as yet. Fran Mendling is/was the guard when Henrik Tanner passed through the gate. We don't know who the guard was when Lyssa Ling and her brother passed through, as the guard does not speak and therefore doesn't fire up the voice recognition on her/him.

The Gatehouse requires three security passes: stating your name, your personal badge, and a biometrics report through a hand scan.

The +000000 indicates to me that you add no time to the already-presented starting time, indicating that the time is GMT.

Perplex City = London?

Mendling does not refer to Tanner by any name except "sir" before he passes all three tests: then she calls him by his first name, Henrik. Would you expect a subordinate to call you by your first name on the job?

Fran Mendling = Computer?

Don't forget Gatehouse 12 - the visitors entrance - from the postcards.

Is The Academy @#$*ing with us?

I know it could just be an ARG convention, but if this were "real" why wouldn't Sente, who can make web sites, place ads, send emails and postcards, and do all these things that WE can do, be so cryptic? Why not just say: Here is what the cube is. Here is what it does. Here is how it got stolen. Here is what we know. Here is how you can help. Here is why we can't find it ourselves.

In stead they send this video? Place ads? Why not send all that info in our email? I'm not trying to be a Wisenheimer here, I'm just saying that unless the PM's are just being "mysterious" then we need to think of a reason to explain all these things. Such as why they make a video that sends us to a bunch of newspaper ads, each of which only have fragments of info that all could have been recited in the initial letter that brought us to the video in the first place! Why? What's the point? Why place clues to a web site that is purposely cryptic (and in an in-game sense both "in our world" and compromised)?

In ILB's the character(s) creating the sites were literally insane. In the Beast, they characters didn't KNOW what was going on, were insane, or were completely unaware of our presence. So... what's up with these guys? Confused

I think the cube is a coaster and Sente forgot where he/she put it.
Yup.
And it's a Rubik's Cube.
Obviously.

[SPEC] Thinking outside of the bo...cube?

I was perusing the casual websites recently and this thought kept bothering me.

We are all so mindlessly determined to solve this cube mystery, to find the missing cube, to help poor Sente. Why though? Who said anything about him being "the good guy"? From what I've gathered, this guy's got some heavy agenda behind him.

What if it was stolen for a reason? What if it should remain stolen? What if it is in our best interests to help the thieves and not some 1984esque organization with security issues? Surely, if we looked at the situation from another point of view, maybe that cube, whatever it is, maybe it's better off where it is now?
And you know, all these adds and promises of riches and rewards for finding it - doesn't that sound kind of cheesy to anyone? Kind of anti-cyber punk in a sense?
I'm personally a very pro-cyber punk oriented person and I don't think I feel right helping anyone who promises big $$$ reward and who's related to some kind of a perfect order super society. As a matter of fact, if I get a choice, I myself will chose to help the thieves...something tells me they/he/she/it have their own side of the story worth listening to before making swift decision in helping whoever asks for help.

Just a thought...think about it...if you had a choice of helping the thieves, would you?

Then again, it's all an ARG...right? Or is it? Think about it:) If they want to make it so real, we should keep it real and make the right choice. Use unclouded judgement before proceeding anywhere and choosing whether we really want to help someone full of promises and disturbing facts.

[EDIT: "spec" tag. yanka.]

Yeh, there's been some spec that sente is the bad guy and whoever jacked the cube did it for a good reason. I mean, we know of at least one person who's died directly because of the cube so what's to say that it can't kill other people.

I think we should still be interested in finding it though. It'd be better to know where the hell it was. If we find where it is and who has it, then perhaps we can learn more about PPC Academy and what exactly the cube is.

After that... I assume we'll form our own alliances and back who we think is 'right'.

Also, there is a thread made specifically for Spec now. So this might be moved.

I only know one thing for sure; the PMs should better have created a damn original storyline, or else we almost certainly will have speculated on it by now, and I'm sure they wouldn't like that now would they? Smile

(Brainwave) In fact, I bet that's why the proper launch is takin so long - right now they're rewrite the entire plot!

There's been over a year between the time the cube went missing and now, and in that time it is possible that many efforts were made, unsuccessfully to get the cube back. As they explain that our 'worlds' differ, literally or metaphorically, it is probable that from their world, they cannot access the cube, so must look for outside help. (Literally, this could mean that they cannot access our 'dimension', but I prefer the metaphorical idea that from perhaps an underground research point-of-view, they cannot search for the cube at risk of becoming public.) Either way, assuming they cannot themselves retrieve the cube, for whatever reason, they want us to find it instead. So, how could they do this whilst making sure they get the cube safely back? (If that is indeed what they want to happen.) I think it is true that they first would want to build up interest to make sure they have a good chance of recieving it, then they would want us to find it and return it... not keep it.

The most important thing to remember, in game or out, is that everything is there for a reason. In cases, that reason may be to be a red herring, but it serves a purpose. The trail that lead to the errorlogs, the postcards... they all serve to build up some kind of back ground as to the story here. Understandably, we cannot be told the full truth, only a shaded version that supports our antagonist's view, i.e., to help Sente find the cube. There will definitely be more to the story than what we already know, but we haven't been told, and there's a reason for that too. The answer to many questions can be, at least for now, that there is a reason for them. There is a reason for the letter, for the video, for the newspapers... they play a part. Right now, that could be to pan time out whilst the strategies are being constructed. Or, they have been planned this way all along. The dripping of information is making us fully interpret each piece independently, possibly to avoid the missing of clues, or to prepare us for the likely stream of information that will still be to come.

In short, there will be reasons as to why the information is hidden, slow and incomplete. We just don't know them yet.
