Don't feel like an outsider!

We remember you! You sang Happy Birthday to the SP, right?

Well yes, but all credit should go to Team-Ra-Cha-Cha of course - couldn't have done it without them! I was the one put on the spot for thinking up a song to sing, Happy Birthday being the first song that came to mind. Unfortunately Alaranth was feeling sick on that particular Tuesday and didn't realize we had an axon, neither did Scott for that matter... but we still had quite the showing, and that call is obviously one of my fondest memories. (Still trying to score the live call recordings from Elan, although there's been some snags lately that may mean it won't happen for a while... trying desparately to find any way around them though).

Hey Rufo! I used to live in Rochester so I feel your airfare pain. Flying out of Buffalo (or even Toronto, which would be easier if the ferry still existed...) is often much cheaper.

Yep, I always check the fares through Buffalo. They're pretty much exactly the same as the fares through Rochester.

The more research I do, the more befuddled I become though...

I mean, seriously, look at this!
http://www.rufosanchez.com/images/fares/HighFare.png
http://www.rufosanchez.com/images/fares/LowFare.png

They're the exact same flight numbers. Only difference between the two is that one continues to Milwaukee. And yet, the one that contiues to Milwaukee... the one that has more flight time... is $100 less?

Singing Happy Birthday to the repressed childhood memories of an artificial intellegience from hundreds of years in the future crash-landed on a beekeeper's website at a payphone in a gas station parking lot makes more sense then this pricing does. Wink No wonder airlines are going out of business.

Also I don't know if JetBlue flies to Chicago, but if they do they're the one discount airline out of Rochester.

Oh, I love JetBlue. Unfortunately they do not fly to Chicago. But they do fly to NYC, which makes it much simpler to go to ARG-Fest-O-Con.

Anyway, still working things out - see you guys there! Smile

um.

Shocked Shocked Silly Dunce
wtf? That is nuts. Can you take the cheaper one and just ignore the other flights? I can't see why not, unless they tell the people down the line that you didn't show up for your flight in milwaukee, and give your seat on the later flight to someone else. Plus with how panicky airport security is sometimes, they may get suspicious if you don't take your second flight....also there will probably be baggage issues....sheesh.

I think you are right about the airline industry...going to heck in a handbasket.

Don't skip the second leg without telling the airline. The airline gets really cranky, because your bag might have a bomb in it. After all, there must be some reason you're not finishing the flight with your luggage, right? Here's what you can do:

Go ahead and reserve the cheaper flight. On the leg into Chicago, tell the stewardess that you have decided to stop in Chicago. Tell them you're feeling sick or something. As long as they know in advance, they can call ahead to have your luggage removed with everyone else's in Chicago. The problem is, the return flight doesn't originate in Chicago, and you may have trouble convincing the airline to let you board in Chicago.

I would offer to drive you from Milwaukee to Chicago on my way... but I think my parents will be hesitant enough about letting little old me go, let alone driving strange men for 3-4 hours... Razz

By the way, Phaedra, if you could put me on the "unconfirmed, but might go" list that'd be great. Smile

It's the museum of technology thing, and they have a game exhibit now. Maybe check that out?

Edit: I found out that the very first arcade game, Computer Space, is on display there, and if I recall, is playable. I got to toy with it last august at the californian classic gaming expo, and it's actually not a bad game, though incredibly hard. I don't think I beat the flying saucer enemies once.

Flight reserved, but where-oh-where will I sleep?

I have my flight reserved, but I still need to confirm a place to sleep. Some of you have already offered, but I'm not sure who actually has room, at this point. I'm willing to share a room, and I'll also make the room reservation, if need be. Who has a room reserved? How many people will it hold, and how many people are you expecting already?

Anybody have wiki space? Maybe we could make another page like the ARGFest roommate finder.

*tap-tap-tap* This thing on? It's been kinda quiet in here...

I'll inject a little life into the thread by saying that I just booked my train tickets and hotel room. (Thanks, Expedia.)

I'm getting in LATE Thursday night and staying at the Red Roof Inn, a mere 4 block walk from the Fogo de Chao. Yeah, the room's a rabbit hutch with nearly no view, but we'll be too busy for me to worry about that... right?

Due to oddities in the Amtrak/Via schedules, I'll have a 4-hour layover in Detroit on the Thursday afternoon. (Blast that decision to shut down the direct train...) Any suggestions? For the same reason I'll be staying through until early Monday morning. (Oddly, that's still much cheaper than flying.) If anybody's up to doing things on the Sunday, I'll be available.

-- Steve looked at staying at the highly-recommended Chicago Water Tower, but alas that doubled the trip's cost all by itself. *sigh* Oh well.
