I find the phrase "unique object" suggestive. A "unique object" is the location of a file on the internet, plus instructions as to how to read it (as indicated by MIME). This seems to be implying that one of the files we've seen contains extra information if looked at in a different program. I suspect the .cache files; I've never come across that extension before, and I haven't been able to track down a program that can read it, although it is a recognized extension on filext.com. I notice that if you save it to your machine, it will automatically append a .txt ending. Anybody know where we can get a program that recognizes the .cache extension?

As I am not totally tech, please forgive the wording if I am using the wrong thing. I found a site http://hopf.math.nwu.edu/docs/index_desc.html#wndex and from the look of it, there is a programme (utility) called wndex on Unix servers that takes files, and changes the name to .cache, to make the index work (?!?).

[SPEC] This does make it look as if something/someone has *caused* these files to be here, and well after they were originally created (times on errorlog don't match with emails eg. Henrick/Sarah exchange with am/pm and the two gatehouse logs am/pm).

If monitoring was occuring, possibly these were accessed at a later date by somone who shouldn't have or was under suspicion, rather than them having been put there.

I may be well out - is there anyone out there who knows about servers & could comment?

FWIW if you create any old text file, rename the extension to .cache, and stick it on your web server IE will open it no muss no fuss. Tried the same thing with an MP3 and it didn't like it though, which is kinda interesting.

All of which tells us that the .cache files are just text files with a different extension, which is exactly what they look like when you download them and take a closer look (though this'll send your file assosciations wacky if you're not careful).

I don't think that's quite what wndex does.

reading up quickly, wn is a web server -- software designed to serve webpages to a demanding public. fFrom the looks of it, it determines how to serve documents in a directory based on a "index.wn" fFile to specify where fFile are and how to name them. something along those lines, anyway. Then the user uses another program, wndex, to interpret those index.wn fFiles so they are smaller and more machine fFriendly.

It's not really in game at all in any way, i think. I took a peek at what webserver perplexcity.com is running on, and it's not wn. so even if the perplexcity universe webservers worked on some variation of this idea, it doesnt really fFit at all.

good thought tho Smile

I thought I should metion that there is a 95% chance that I will be getting the T dot Globe & Mail although not 'til later in the week (next week obviously). I reckon someone closer to TO can get one faster (like TheBruce). But I'll be doing my bit nonetheless. I should have it by Wed next week (I have to get my parents to send it to me, so if there's no scans of it by then I'd be more than happy to oblige.)

Yes, that is something that we speculated on further back. "Concealed it in your world..." - it really seems like only a few can get over here, if not NONE. Though, it's only my theory again that the people sitting in the car are looking for the cube.

So if they could search for it themselves, why would they need us?

regarding the .cache files:

it doesn't matter. they could also be .log files, as they are security system logs. [more or less]. they could be anything else.

if they mean something, imho they mean that they were created as a core dump at the time the security systems were diasbled / shut down / etc...

still, i reckon the file extensions do NOT have any significance. the contents have more Smile

Speaking of trout, I am posting just to say that that is the best ASCII art ever.

Just to pretend to be relevant, I'll agree that it's unlikely that the .cashe extention serves any purpose other than to make it look a little more like an actual dump from the Academy's securety system.

I think the discussion is getting a little mixed up with newspaper talk in the vid thread - so I'm putting this in here for now, feel free to move it. People were worried that not all of the online classifieds were available online in La Presse.

I have set up an account here,

and so will be downloading a copy of La Presse tomorrow morning - exactly as it would appear in print. Will keep you guys posted.

likewise, if you need any help with the translation- in general its interpretation, google or babble fish can handle basic word-for-word translation.

Whoa!?

"them" ?? Only signed up for one cube...do we have to find a group of people or other things first?

and a surname too!

revelations coming thick and fast now (snowballing even Wink )

[edit] Master of PPC, NOT the academy. Could signify that the site is the physical representation of the city in our world?

[edit again...should think before posting] He/she wants justice now as well? Don't think that's been mentioned before?
