The song is now identified.

http://www.archive.org/audio/audio-details-db.php?collection=opensource_audio&collectionid=Victor_Orch-Black_and_White_Ragtime

It is the Black and White Ragtime (two step).

Makes sense, in a twisted kind of way Smile

And it ain't annoying, I LIKE it! )

Well another day and another puzzle, at least we solved one so they arent spiralling!

Anyhoo there are two bible options it could be:

John: 8:1 'But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives'
John: 8:57 'You are not yet fifty years old," the Jews said to him, "and you have seen Abraham'

Kings: 8:1 'Then King Solomon summoned into his presence at Jerusalem the elders of Israel, all the heads of the tribes and the chiefs of the Israelite families, to bring up the ark of the LORD's covenant from Zion, the City of David.'
Kings 8:57 'May the LORD our God be with us as he was with our fathers; may he never leave us nor forsake us.'

No ideas as yet.

You forgot Psalms. There is indded a 57.

It might also be time, 8:01 to 8:57. Who can say?

This would suck if we oculd never solve anymore puzzles in here....

for thre record Zrffntr>Message is ROT-13

also, the missing words "adnostrum" (thx kender). In Latin, ad nostrum translates as "at our" as in "at our disposal"

It makes me wonder what the significance of a Ragtime would be, in this case.

The message, of course, does not ROT properly.

A ragtime, though, is a piano piece with a constant bass oompah line in the left hand, with a fairly active melody in the right hand -- specifically, a rhythm that differs from the other hand.

The picture for Blackwhite, to me, looked like two hands in differing colors.

It makes me wonder if we're not supposed to use two different decrypts on this, or decrypt each half separately. Could the two numbers (8.1, 8.57) be a clue to this?

Also still not sure as to the significance of the Ouija board background. Other than some basic creepiness.

Also note: There is no Psalms 8:57. There is a psalms 57:8.

First, based on the title of the page (on the rag... time)
I would assume that the numbers do, indeed, refer to a time.

Second, I was looking at an ouija board (you know, those things you use to contact the dead?)
Like the puzzle, the letters on the board are divided into two lines, A-M and N-Z
The classic board also has a sun and moon (day night, balck white)
as well as "good bye" on the bottom line (like the title of /Eccleastia)

Just throwing out ideas.

I would call it fairly significant no letter repeats itself. That also opens the possibility the letters not included (the "black space") are important.

First row:
K T? B X V C F E Y I W

Second row:
L G H Q Z J

Not included:
A M N O P R S U

not sure if this helps but here is the original source for the ouija board pictured http://www.brainjar.com/dhtml/ouija/graphics/board.jpg

EDIT:
On another note what if this has a connection to the famous Book/Play/Movie Ragtime written by E L Doctrow. It was about the music and the struggles between blacks and whites. I see no connection to the ouija quite yet but I'll look into it. Just a thought

Kender mentioned this in chat earlier. However, the 'missing letters' are ADNOSTRUM. ad nostrum.
