 		Online Player Survey Now Available
Announcing an ARG player survey.

I pulled together a small online survey that attempts to collect and provide information about ARG players and the computers we are using as we play. Everyone who plays or is interested in playing ARGs is invited to help out by completing the annonymous survey at: http://www.aliasnode.net/survey.html.

MiniFAQ:
Who commissioned the survey?
No one. I just thought it might be helpful to developers of ARGs if there was a convenient way to get certain demographic information about the pool of potential players as a group.

What is done with the data?
It shows up on the "Current Statistics" tab at the survey site, where everyone has free and equal access to it. That's all.

Is it anonymous / safe?
Yes. No personal information about players is collected. No cookies or other tracking technology is used. (So please don't submit more than one Player Survey).

 		By the way, a few people have asked me about including Skype and things like it in the survey's list of IM clients.

I'm kind of torn about what to do. Skype is really a VOIP application, not an IM application. But I admit that the lines between VOIP (proprietary, SIP, and H.323), Video Conferencing and IM are getting blurry. For example, I'm told that Microsoft is working on merging their MSN messaging client with NetMeeting, and Apple has iChatAV which adds video conferencing to their AIM-compatible IM gizmo. So I suppose that instant messaging, video conferencing, and Internet telephony will probably all merge together in the end.

Maybe I should broaden the category to something like "Realtime Messaging & Chat Software", and include Skype, NetMeeting, GnomeMeeting, and other video conferencing stuff?

On the other hand, there are dozens of applications that provide video conferencing and voice over the Internet. See for example http://myhome.hanafos.com/~soonjp/vidconf.html. I'm not sure that listing all of them in the survey would be useful?

I'm stuck! What do you all think?
