Jakalope.net

There's a fun puzzle website based on the new band Jakalope at jakalope.net. I'm serious, it's relatively difficult considering what the website is for.

Very difficult.... I got as far as the third clicky-number thing, and I just don't get what to do from there....

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I got as far as the thing where it shows the error message "this page cannot be displayed", and text appears "yes it can yes it can" etc, and it fades to a site for some record producer or something. Can't figure out anything from there....

[POSSIBLE ARG] Jakalope.net - Industrial Music fans: READ!!

note: this was it's own thread until it got moved here
I've been listening to a new band lately, it's a Canadian project by Skinny Puppy producer Dave "Rave" Olgivie. It's called "Jakalope", and it's a colaborative effort with a new canadian vocalist by the name of "Katie B" and many vertran artists including Trent Reznor, Monster Magnet, Sloan, Kat Bjelland from Babes in Toyland, Thom D'arcy (Carnations), Phil Western, Malhavoc and many others.... and although their music is not what I had expected, their website is interesting to say the least. I have just spent 3 hours disecting what seems to be a new ARG....

A series of puzzles, many of them seeming to only release remixes of the bands songs... that is.. until you look closer.

The result of the second puzzle is a flash animation with this postcard in it:
http://crimsonbound.ath.cx/stuff/jakalope1.jpg

and the solution to the 3rd reveals a seemingly meaningless rant about imortality... until of course a little black rotating symbol (a clock perhaps?) floats across the screen. When you click it, it links to here: http://www.godfreyscordial.com/

a site that is definitely packed with AG-style goodies... a quick look at the source of the page shows messages such as

<!-- you shouldn't be here you shouldn't be here here herrre-->

and the following:
<!-- Godrey's Cordial-->
<!-- Atkinson's Preservative-->
<!-- Infant's Quietness-->
<!-- Mother's Helper-->

a quick google search on these terms shows quite a few sites relating to opium addiction and children....

needless to say, this may be just an elaborite scam to draw attention to jakalope, but I do think there's much more to it than meets the eye.

I figured this was the best place to announce it, as I've been here briefly before for the whole ilovebees thing... So, I'm calling "Game On"....... for anyone who's interested in breaking apart this "mystery"

Their website, by the way, is http://Jakalope.net

** edited to take out big picture and replace with small link to big picture. also, merged with existing thread. -- jamesi

Careful. Doing some search around google will reveal quite a bit of info and spoilers about the site.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Apparently, it's been around since June 2004.

Ok... turns out it's not an ARG... just an elaborate scheme to waste my time........ wait a minute........ that sounds like most ARGs to me.... Laughing

well, either way, this site here: http://www.godfreyscordial.com is still confusing me... and the reason it's confusing me is because the direction it pointed me in seems to have NOTHING to do with the jakalope site.... but then, I could be wrong... maybe I missed something.

If anyone wants the solutions to all the puzzles on Jakalope.net, please let me know and I'll post them. Otherwise, move this thread to the timewaster forum Wink

http://www.jakalope.net/desktops/jakalopedesktop1600.jpg

I hope you all know what Jakalope is. Otherwise read the spoiler
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Jakalope is just a name of band that makes music. The band is just tricking you by a game to promote their songs (at the end of every level you hear of song of them.
I think they have a bandguy who can work very good with Flash because the game looks amazing.
Otherwise, it's just not more than advertising for ther one band.

So, I think this is not a ARG and I think it wasn't also a timewaster, but a weekwaster Very Happy.

Anyway i enjoyed playing it Smile

Bye Troyee (son af Bartmans)

Puzzle 3 solution:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Click the word "key" when the text is done typing. This will pop up a new window with a riddle inside. The riddle is as follows:

Look at this unlikely pair!
In this blasphemous affair!
Where each member contributes
Their collective attributes.
Could I be the best of both?
Or perhaps the worst of two?
That's for you to diagnose.
From this genetic review.

Riddle solution:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

The answer is: hybrid
This gives you the key to puzzle 4, "drevar", or Dr. Evar

Puzzle 4 Solution:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Type in "drevar"
At which point, the band's song "creeper" plays... nothing special, it's on the album.

At this point, you will be presented with 3 numbers, and another spinny thing.

The three numbers link to:
http://www.jakalope.net/desktops/fetus11600.jpg
http://www.jakalope.net/desktops/fetus21600.jpg
http://www.jakalope.net/desktops/fetus31600.jpg

the spinny thing links to : http://www.mypetskeleton.com/ , the site of the web developer/artist that made the jakalope.net site

This is the point where I got quite frustrated. Seemingly the last puzzle on the site, and all it gives me is a clip of a song that's already on the album?! I spent how much time on this?....... then there was the http://www.godfreyscordial.com/ site that it linked to... and didn't even use in it's puzzles... which angered me more... which got me thinking... is this an incomplete project? is there more to come?

either way, I had hopes of something more. the storyline that the puzzles were building was interesting, and it's sad to see that it fell short. I would have loved it if this were more than it turned out to be, but sadly, it wasn't. I'll be sure to email the designer of the site and complain Smile

In an odd twist of fate, it seems the website has been updated........ there's now a puzzle 5....... the puzzle consists of dragging stuff (the clock-like thingies that have been everywhere) around in a petri dish until you synthisize different tissues... the solution plays yet another one of jakalope's songs.... and provides another bit of storyline......

it also provides another spinny thing and a link to http://snfu.com ...... I'm assuming this is yet another band that worked on the (music) project
