Since I'm frustrated with my IRC client messing up and me missing the Clea chat, I'm pointing this out so that I don't feel completely useless. I guess the moral of the story is to go ahead and try the solve yourself instead of assuming that no comment= it was tried and didn't work.

I tried it, but didn't try to add the numbers. It does seem in retrospect it had to be a clock -- that's the only reasonable explanation why the hands never were positioned at an exact diagonal.

ARGH, I started seeing it as a clock and added the fucking hands too. My mistake was trying to add up the rows to see if it formed a magic square which I could fill in the blank hands off. Well done Step for the solve and all involved.
