[PUZZLE] [SPEC] 24-digit postcard number

Seeing as how we have unfinished business with the numbers under the semacode on the postcard, I decided to try my hand at it.

Total spec here...just a warning.

I thought about the numbers and how they might be translated. I remembered in school how we used to spell words on our calculators.
Googling turned up a few different alphabets for the numbers 0-9.
After playing around with this for a while, and no results, i took our 24 digit number and found the cube root of it. Taking that into calculator alphabet I came up with GOOGLE BOSSES SIG. While this is a huge stretch and has not yielded any results as of yet, it may be another avenue to look down, or just more wild spec

moved topic

I moved this thread here from Meta/Questions because that forum is really more for the "hey, when was this found?" or "can anyone tell me when the game will begin?" sort of questions.

If nobody objects, I think we might want to use this thread for solving/speculating_about the cursed number (so I relabled it from terminalskeptic's original "An exercise in lateral thinking, or more spec" title). Given our current progress, this thread will probably still be alive by the end of the game! Shocked Hey, it'll be Oct. 1 all over again Very Happy Geek

lol, know it's been a while since i've been on the ARG scene but I"ve been lurking all over this one...

BOSSES SIG? All I can think of is Sente's incredibly distinctive signature.. but how would.. hmm...
I'm going to go double-check his results, if that's truly in there then that's too much to be a coincidence.

The bosses sig thing plus sente is interesting... sente's sig is a hyperlink to the movie file... but that still leaves the "google" thing...hmmmm

Bosses != Boss's

Keep in mind "Bosses" is the plural of "Boss". It should more correctly be "Boss' Sig"

"Signatures from Pointy Haired Bosses"...

Interesting... there's P's, C's, and S's in there...

The postcard was available long before the video (a couple of months?). I would doubt that there would be a connection. We've also googled "Sente" to death by now.

1 followed by 100 zeroes is a "Googol," which is pronounced Google... the video is on video.html... videos are sometimes movies in Multiplexes... there's the number Googolplex...

That reminded me of that game where you can always link to one actor by a bunch of others...

How exactly did you get "GOOGLE BOSSES SIG" from the cube root of 221545484848465100503215?

The number I get for the cube root of 221545484848465100503215 is: 60509138.236560781360067935248319

I've tried to re-create this sequence as if displayed on a 7-segment display (see attached pic), but I just don't see the "GOOGLE BOSSES SIG" string in there anywhere.

USPS tracking code

Hi.

New here.

I saw eariler that someone had suggested that the USPS was going to move to a 24 digit tracking system for all objects in the postal system.

I put the number into the USPS tracking service web page and found that the number is a valid object in the postal system, or has been in the past few months or so. But that no tracking had been purchased for the item. I tried a few other numbers 24 digit numbers close to the number, these were all valid, but again not tracked. Quite a few numbers gave valid hits, including the reversed number.

Some other numbers that I tried gave

" There is no record of that item. If it was mailed recently, information may not yet be available. Please try again later."

error messages.

Practical upshot.... beats me.

So for the postcard there is no use to the number it seems, if it really is a USPS number.

In a wild speculation I suggest that the USPS track and confirm webpage may give info for other objects mailed later in the game.

I posted this first in the newspaper thread... but moved it to the postcard thread... and now finally here since it fits better. Anyway... in the newspaper thread someone mentioned that that crazy postcard number might translate to music. Then... I posted this:

Quote:

I found this site which converts numbers to notes. It's freeware... but i'm on a work computer... so I can't do it here.
http://reglos.de/musinum/

but i'm bored ...and on the site there are tones that you can play that correspond to numbers... and to make a long story even longer .. I did it with the darn number (slow night at work) and here's what I got. For the zeroes I just added some silence. Me thinks it's nuttin... but have a listen.

Musical numbers

Is there any way to do the opposite: to turn the notes in the video into numbers?
