PERDU Le Cube. Récompense.
Trouvez-les, et cela les
apportera à la justice. "Sente
Kiteway", Maître de www.perplexcity.com

translates literally to:

LOST The Cube. Reward.
Find them, and that will bring them to justice.
"Sente Kiteway", Master of www.perplexcity.com

The way I would have written it would have been something like the following. The biggest thing to note is the increased length for 'correctness' (and even then, the second "sentence" isn't quite correct, the 'article' is missing). Just as in English, I'm sure the French skip unimportant words in classifieds in order to save money on space.

PERDU: Le Cube. Récompense offerte.
Trouvez ceux qui sont responsables; cela
leur rendront la justice. "Sente Kiteway",
Maître de www.perplexcity.com

But this is French, let's make it nice and lovely, shall we (my French is getting a little rusty, but I'm pretty confident this is correct)?

"Sente Kiteway",
Maître chez www.perplexcity.com

"sofas in the stairwell" in one of the latest ads is a joke -- it's a reference to douglas adams " dirk gently - holistic detective agency"

piecing it together:

This new piece suggests these are not pieces of one big article. This seems to be in a completely different context!

Strange... really doesn't fit the tone of the rest, not to mention doesn't fit in so far. I guess we'll have to wait and see. 5 left to come I think... hopefully that will clear somethings up.

Don't Panic!

Odd. Very odd classified. Guess we'll just wait and see. There could be a connecting piece between USA Today's piece and Toronto Globe & Mail. I mean, we have the end of a speech in TG&M, with the beginning in the Sydney Telegraph, running through the NY Sun and USA Today. He could be about to say "But don't worry, the rich-bastards-of-Perplex-City party will go ahead tomorrow, but with extra..." and then run into TG&M. Who knows? We'll just have to wait.

While the new hitchhiker's movie IS coming out, we also had a discussion (several pages long) about the reasoning for "42" in one of the other threads. This could just be the pm's giving a friendly nod to unfiction 3 and letting us know that big brother is watching.

this new ad doesn't seem to fit in the existing framework. hopefully the south china ad will be the missing link.

I was under the impression that these things have all been prepared in advance (that's why they all form part of a larger text), so it's unlikely that they'd have any reference to something like that.

More likely, it is there for a reason, and the occurence of '42' earlier is probably not a coincidence. When/where exactly did 42 come into it before?

Basically the protaganist in DNA's book 'Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency' had a sofa wedged in his stairwell that physically shouldn't have been stuck there. There was no way for it to be stuck there and it couldn't be moved out of the stairwell. Played a minor part in the story until some over-zealous police man guy chopped it up. *frown*

Edit: To explain further (and sense I've got the book in front of me, and I'm bored) here is a direct quote from the book. Richard (who owns the couch and the flight of stairs) created a computer program to compute a way to get the couch out...

Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency wrote:
"I told it to compute the moves necessary to get the sofa out, and it said there aren't any. I said 'What?' and it said there aren't any. I then asked it, and this is the really mysterious thing, to compute the moves necessary to get the sofa into its present position in the first place, and it said that it couldn't have got there. Not without fundamental restructuring of the walls."

Not that I think DNA has anything to do with Perplex City, but it's fun to re-read him. *continues reading the book*

I just want to hear more about this annual ball that seems to be in honor of the cube!

Yes, it sounds like perhaps this ball was when the cube was stolen (Thus explains the slight lack of security)
