[SCRATCH ALL OFF THIS]if any one wants to disscuss the .999999... 1 thing PM me. I agree the threads are NOT a place for disscussions on infinaties and why they are pain full.

I went and read the locked thread... my point wasn't to bring this back up it was just to point out a better way to use the win calc's built in functions, but i'm more then happy to discuss this too in a more approprate place.[SCRATCH ALL OFF THIS]

EDIT: Ignoring my own advise here...
It turns out after some digging that both sides of the 1==.9* are right ...

Right now MOST but NOT all "Mathmatitions" say they're equal but just not to long ago MOST said they weren't and it's expect they'll change there minds again and say they're not equal...
best URL for bothsides

Egad. Look what I started.

Thanks, StarryNight! For some reason, I skipped that line of explanation on their "how to" page. I saw the square root title, but not a cube root title.

I really need to read all the details, especially with this game!

Apple behind PS?

Hi, new here (and to ARG generally). Just a thought, and one that (surprisingly) didn't turn up on a search of this thread. "Hello World" is what used to come up on the splash screen of new Macintosh computers. I think it might've also been used by apple in their old online community. Might they be behind PS? Microsoft has already used ARG, so why not? And if PS has been in 'pre-game' for a year, well, that might be attributable to a delay in product development, no?

Oh, and Apple made a cube computer once, but that's just not likely to be related at all.

EDIT: Just went through the rest of the newbie thread. Seems there's the matter of the "change the world" quote being from Apple too. Can't be entirely coincidence.

"Hello World" is a commonly used phase that programers use when testing a new system or a programing language that they have not used before. It tests the input(keyboard) and output(printer in by gone days and on video display today)

The black cube computer was the NeXT machine that Jobs came up with after he left Apple in 1988.

I think Warbanner might be referring to the Apple G4 Cube.

To further add fuel to the fire, the computer in the first Flash message was a Mac.

These are a lot of coincidences I am coming across tonight; sadly though they cannot all be true. There are:

    - Hitchiker's guide -- a couple of references so far, and
    - Apple -- from what I am hearing, multiple references.

What is the most exiting, is that if either are true, then those are some seriously BIG hooks...

Well, this hasn't been mentioned as far as I can tell...

The 'Hello World' greeting has been spec'd to be related to the Macintosh, but I think we're neglecting a major clue:

"Hello world" are two of the most important words in the Partridge Family's theme song!

Shocked

Maybe the PM are clones of David Cassidy?

ok, just chiming in... as soon as there was talk of that 'cube root' math function, I immediately thought to myself (how many posts until the thread is mentioned, and how many posts until I'm mentioned in infamy) sure enough, on the same page, "don't let thebruce read the above post"... *sigh*. Not even a word said and I'm still a bad guy, being still one of many who were actively involved in the thread... can we please get past that? I'm starting to have an inkling of what weephun felt like... It was an interesting topic, with much learned, but it's done. But, thanks for those who continued on with the topic here...

I like the idea of the 24 digit number either having something to do with a cube calculation (perhaps raise it ^3 and the resulting huge number could be reduced to some matrix or set of values? but without any guideline or where to use that number, it's likely a dead end)... or maybe continue with the search for other applications of 24 digit numbers... basically, perhaps the 24 digits aren't a code in and of itself, but it needs to be used for a purpose, rather than a term in a calculation... Confused dunno

We'll see how "involved" my new job allows (transfer to new dept to get my career to actually go somewhere). That plus the 2 week trip to Brazil in April, a baby due in May, and a sister-in-law wedding in June might just relegate me to near lurker status. So the children might just be safe Wink We'll see.
