"A similar thought" by Max Eaton

On the topic of the missing six letters in Max Eaton's latest blog message.

"Hahaha you thought that you had me after louis lost his nerve and folded but I still gleaned you suckers for al(l) you were worth! Haha. Make sure you think of m(??) smiling face on your next run."

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The first group of six is ROTed by 24, the next ROTed 9 and so on to form the pattern
24 9 2 8 7 15 24 9 2 8 7 15 24 9 2 8 7 15 24 9 2 ? 7 15 24 9
The sequence 24, 9, 2, 8, 7,15 indicates that the message was encoded using the key "CRYSTL" (very close to the earlier spec by RobMagus on the other Max Eaton post)
Following the pattern, "esdveq" should be ROTed by 8 to form "maldmy"

The last sentence of the message could then be "Make sure you think of me and my smiling face on your next run."

I agree that the gist of the message had already been solved, but I couldn't resist prodding at the puzzle. Smile

Ahh, that makes perfect sense. It was late late at night when I worked on that solve and I kept meaning to check the rotation for each word group and mark it down, but totally forgot to in my desperate need to go to bed. Smile

poll

There are a couple of new blog entries on the citizens site including Mary Hanes first round of answers and a poll as to which questions she will answer next, To be able to vote you have to sign up for a blog, which you can do on the above site.

As to the poll:
I think we should have the third question answered as the first part of the first question isn't very important and the second part of it is covered by the third question. Thus the third question is better than the first. As to the second question...well its not really a question but that seems like interesting info, however by picking the third option we get two questions answered. Anyways there's my argument, feel free to disagree

And we already have independent confirmation that David Severn is on Ares Station, in Simon Miller's latest blog entry talking about the missing research assistant, Jacob Jones:

Simon Miller wrote:
I told his royal highness David Severn all that happened and I thought that would be the end of it.

Some of you have been saying Jacob couldn't have gone out with Simon a week ago because Simon was scheduled to go out to sector 9 with another individual. All I can tell you right now is that I have confirmed Simon's statement that they did go out together. No further comment can be made at this time.

A reminder: all earth prisoners are fitted with halos. This equates to an inability to log into any Ares Station systems, therefore none of these prisoners are hacking into anything. These problems are just temporary glitches.

Prisoners!?, since when have there been prisoners on the station? Also of great interest the word 'halo', this definetly puts me in mind of minority report, where halo's where the thingies they put on prisoners heads, that stopped them from doing anything hmmm.....

Also, Mary has a new blog entry where she answers a question, which seems to come from somebody actually on the spacestation (unless you guys know what g-ball) is. It however does not appear to containt o much useful info

Re: Anonymous.. Who it could be

In regards to the previous post...

I'm don't really think this is the case. The closing line, Your Loyal Fan does not really sound like Hanna to me. Additionally, this "unique" writing style doesn't look at all like Hanna's. I expect to see more of this kind of writing. At first I thought there was a coded message in there, but I couldn't find it after searching for a while. So far, strings I've looked at (to save you the trouble of repeating my work - unless you just want to double check me) are:

iyrthttttAHglty - first letter of each line
rtyunrthnfornrn - last letter of each line
7 4 10 2 9 20 12 12 3 19 7 16 10 7 4 - sylable count per line
gdjbitllcsgpjgd - sylable count per line to letter of alphabet

I promise you that doing a simple ROT won't help, I tried the first two options with some guessed Vignere passwords, and nothing. If it was subsitution, it would almost be probably be the first or last letter of each line, or some other easy to guess extraction, and those strings look like they would have to be something without a 1-1 translation, with all the repeating t's or r+n's.

It is possible there is no coded message at all, and the style is used only so we can identify this person again when we see more poem like writings.

EDIT: you may want to check your numbers on the words in a sentence...

We have new poster from the space station. Crusty Bottom.

Quote:
Since this blog is for the purpose of getting to know eachother, I thought I'd add my "profile" today. Why today? Better late then never, I guess.

I'm what you would call a very logical person. Sometimes I can go soooo far in my logic that it becomes illogical. If you've ever seen my posts you know what I'm talking about.

Anyway, it's great to be here and I can't wait to start my job (whenever those snails at the hiring center get around to contacting applicants).

Oh, one more thing, I can't spell worth spit. And since my spellchecker really doesn't like me, you will see many incorrectly spelled words in any post or responce I write.

Well, it's about time I go. I have to get some sleep. I have a big day planned for the 10th of March (wink, wink).

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Hmm, bad speller huh. Is Crusty sending an SOS?

Digitized info for wall pic

Below is extracted information from the wall pic.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Okay, I quantified the information encoded in the wall diagram. My method is like this: there are 26 slots on the each bar (yes, there are also 26 letters. what a coincidence). I called the lowest slot 1, the highest 26. There are 19 columns. They are numbered as such from left to right (1-19). I am 99& sure this is accurarte.

Here is where each column has dots.
Column Dot locations
1...........7
2...........8,9,12
3...........8,13,18,20,22,25
4...........8
5...........3,18
6...........2,7
7...........7
8...........9,19
9...........22
10..........6,7,22
11..........9
12..........8,13
13..........12,23
14..........12
15..........14
16..........22
17..........12.14,23
18..........12
19..........13
