New Spock Mail

Bolding is mine.

Subject : you don't have any friends (ducatus)

Sun, 20 Jul 2003

The breakthrough came when I applied my remembrance of your love for "bee-lines", and mapped your whole route on one map. I was mightily amused at the shape looking up at me. Your non-existent friends would have found the form forboding had they figured it out, I'll wager. What's next? Twin snakes coiling around the Constitution?

Their problem is that short lives lead to short attention spans. They can't be expected to take the things they uncovered months ago and apply them to the present mysteries. And absent that, or an obsessive attention to detail, they fail to see the big picture and so become bored.

I doubt they even cared enough to retrieve your postcard.

You are alone. I am all you have. Return with me

Shana also mentioned "bee lines" in a round about way. (Which I believe are straight lines)

Quote:
Ewan was never one to take the paths clearly marked, or to ask for permission to go where he wished.
He was always such a busy bee

(BTW... ducatus {in the subject line} is Latin for leadership or command)

I've tried plotting all the "spots" on a single map. Unfortunately I couldn't find one that had everything so I've had to assume where the Pentagon and the George Washington Masonic Memorial were in relation to all else, and for that I used what aliendial had posted for maps.

I also tried plotting "everything" and it just seemed like a big mess to me....so I broke it up into days. In other words when he ends at the Federal Triangle stop on day two and starts at the Washington Monument on day three I didn't trace a line. I just started at the WM.

If no one can see anything in this then I'll redo and put the lines from the last monument one day to the first monument the next.

Also I noticed that Shana, in adddition to her remark on the "bees", also mention a 3 day walk about...so is it possible we might have a day we don't neccessarily need?

PS: Ignore the red dot by the Vietnam Vet Mem. ...it's not included.
I'm thinking constellations....and Draco...lol. But that's only because I can't get that "loop" he does around the Ellipse out of my head. And I've checked, but I don't think that's it anyway.

Anyone else?

The three point line of the Washington Monument, Pentagon and GWMM was not actually a walkabout but an observation on his arrival in town, so maybe we can ignore that. On the other hand he did clearly come back out to the vicinity of the GWMM to find Cafe Calliope (still NOT visible from the station lot, I might add, although the building it is in is right there), so perhaps we should include that jaunt as part of the drawing?

I have to say that, while we now have a much better map (thanks, cem!), I remain mystified. Maybe a constellation, but nothing leaps out at me. My normal state. Sad
