So, is it the year that's important? 1894 was when Argon was discovered, by Lord Rayleigh and Sir William Ramsay, a.k.a. two guys whose names begin with 'R', just like Rydberg, who presented his formula in 1888.
If we're focusing on the elements, the Rydberg constant is associated with hydrogen. Magnesium+hydrogen+argon? Mha? I get it, they're laughing at us! Evilly!
(For completeness, Mg was isolated in 1808 by Sir Humphry Davy (but discovered in 1755 by Joseph Black, according to different sources), which sadly breaks the 'R' streak. But, hey, new meaningless pattern! Chronological order: 1755/1808, 1888, 1894)

Hi again guys, The binary name of the .gif doesnt translate however if you invert the number so you get a negative like the picture, the answer is -3. Dunno what to do with that though?
It could come in very handy as an undo ROT

New in the comments of the source (on page 2):

A couple other new items; alts added to the codes:
code="650nm"
code="1.09737" alt="Rh"
code="39.948" alt="lRlR"

Another addition: an INVERSE british flag (note the inverse... in the source code, the two binaries are inverses...)
with the numbers 326
and the letters "ps"
Which might mean that this is our last unsolved puzzle, since its the only one being updated. PS may imply that those three letters were forgotten, but...
EDIT: and on the flag: 1894

If this isn't new, I didn't catch it before and didn't spot anyone else commenting on it. On 6, the S in Salvador is capitalized- none of the other letters are capped.

That's actually not new - I remember noticing a few days ago. I think you're right that no one commented, though, might be important.
So:
Quote:
<code="650nm" />
<code="1.09737" alt="Rh" />
<code="39.948" alt="lRlR" />
650nm is the wavelength of orange-red light
Rh, as far as I can tell, indicates that we're looking at the Rydberg constant of hydrogen
Anyone understand what lRlR means? It's a lowercase "L"...I'm not seeing the connection to argon.
(...IR spectrum? People seem to enjoy taking IR spectra in the gas phase through argon matrices (linky ), although it's still an L and not an I)

latecomer spotted another update on /2
the <code="39.948" alt="lRlR" /> was changed to:
<code="39.948" alt="l.R. l.R." />
note the space in the middle( which may have been added in a separate updated, but I am unsure of this)

I don't have time to do the calculations this moment, but I think they're wanting the element to mix with Argon (blue-green laser wavelength) to get a 650nm laser (red-orange wavelength). The Rh comes from the formula here:

latecomer spots another update....
<code="39.948" alt="lord.R. lord.R." />
I guess we can assume Ramsay & Rayleigh.

Hm, come to think of it, the only reason the Rs would be in caps vs. the lords would be to make the answer R (Red laser wavelength, Rydberg, etc.).
So, forget the calculation, I'm making it too hard on myself.
