ARG Overload?

Does anybody else feel that there are just too many things going on?

I was going through the forums today, and every other post is about a new ARG. Some big, some small, but it seems to me that there really are a lot of things going on.. it's like we have more PM's than players!

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for more ARG's and getting more people into the community, but I just miss an older time when I could come here and follow all of the games. I knew all the players and at least read all the posts even if I didn't play the game. It's impossible to do that now.

I was just wondering what everyone else thinks about this.. especially the oldies.

I seem to remember a time not long ago, when there were approximately three games running, and people were complaining there were too few.

Personally, I love the fact that so many people have stepped up to try their hand at running their own games. I admit to being a little dissapointed by the lack of variety, but that's to be expected with what are obviously new PMs.

I don't think we should judge too early how a game will turn out. If anything, let Darwinism run it's course. The good games will float to the top, the ones that need work will get less attention and, hopefully, retooled and re-released at a quieter time.

And I don't think it's for impossible to read all the trailheads to find a game that interests you. Follow along every IM conversation? Maybe that's a bit of a stretch. But to get an idea of what the game's about, get a feel for how it'll be played (web based, IM, Chat, etc) and select one (or more!) that you'll enjoy...welcome to the free market economy!

Luckily, different styles are emerging here ands there. granted, they are not super different in scope, but there is some free thinking going on.

Methinks more games come in as past experience show its possible to run a game solo with a smart and well designed storyline and setup. You also have NashCarey bankrolling some games for the sake of expanding the genre. Was pleased to be a part of one of those games.

Vive le spice of life.

While I too am disappointed, it is not with the selection... it is my own time limitations... I honestly would play EVERY game if that were possible (but alas, I work, have a wife and a child... Laughing) But seriously, I too welcome the additions taking place...

Is this place getting a little confusing? Sure... But is that through the fault of mods or infrastructure? I don't think so... I think, like Alzheimers has said, social Darwinism should win out here, and the fittest of the games will play on (, playa. [Sorry I had to]).

My only complaint, ONLY, is that we've got a lot of IM/Chat based games going on. Not that in and of itself, that is a bad idea... cuz I know that's the grassiest of the grassroots... no websites to manage and secure, etc... but at the same time, I feel like this: If you can't be original, wait until your plan will fit into something bigger and more orignal later... ya know? But that's also my own opinion.

Oh, and also leave poor hdkl alone, for pete's sake... He's going to go schizo on us believing that everyone on his buddy list is actually a rogue AI, some fantasy princess, or simply a half-baked PM... Laughing
