Extracting files from flash

Just wanting to know how to extract a sound file from a flash movie, either by pulling it apart, which I would rather not do, or by finding the directory the components are in. Help please..

Hm... I'm not sure if a sound used in a flash can be stored outside the flash, but I've never seen it done that way anyway.

Most likely, you're going to have to decompile it (the flash). There used to be somewhat of a consensus in the ARG community that decompiling flash is a strict no-no - I'm not sure whether such a consensus exists anymore, but the point is - everybody (or nearly everybody) does it anyway Mr. Green

You can get the sothink decompiler here - but, Shocked , did their price just double over the last few months, or am I hallucinating paying around $40?? There are probably other, cheaper/free decompilers available, but I don't really know where...

Here's a pretty decent free one. You never really have to get the paid version. The free trial thingy will do pretty much everything you need.

I guess it depends on the PM. In Sable & Shuck, quite a few of the flash based puzzles weren't solvable simply by looking at the flash code. If the flash calls to a server-side script, people aren't going to find much by looking at the decompiled flash. On the otherhand, Daemonworks leaves little messages in their flash specifically because they know I decompile them. It's always interesting to see what they'll put in next. I suppose that if a PM really hated the idea of people decompiling flash, they could always put some really evil puzzle in it that decodes to "Go jump in the lake - stop looking in the flash" (or something to that effect).

Thanks for those, and don't worry... this isn't strictly in game anyway... just a cool game I want the music for! Thanks again!
