E-mail from Ewan, and new GeoCities page...

In Ewan's Hotmail account, in the "Junk Mail" folder:

I went through Virginia last week and came across a great place to stop for a rest, if you can manage to get on a line stopping at one of the nearby rock quarries in Stafford Country. It's the old, now abandoned grounds of the Virginia Renaissance Faire: 249 acres of woods, fields, and a medieval villiage. I'm assuming that the buildings weren't built to be inhabited, but they beat being exposed to the elements and many of them seemed structurally sound.

I stuck a picture I found online and a picture my new traveling companion took in my geocities account:

Edit: It has now been moved by someone out of "Junk Mail" into the "Inbox".

More on NW.COM

Ewan's e-mail was sent to train-hoppersSPLATnw.com.

http://www.nw.com is the address for "Network Wizards", a software company in Menlo Park. Some interesting pics of a project called the "Aural Gratification Ring" at Burning Man.

Pink Floyd used the same thing as the aural ring in their shows. Multiple small speakers placed around the auditorium giving off random noises. Probably very confusing/trippy to the stoned concertgoer...

Ren Faire madness

While I haven't been paying a great deal of attention to this one, I check in on occasion just to see what Ewan's been up to....
This is FWIW time...
Having been associated with the company that owned the Virginia Faire, I was there it's opening season. The area just to the left and up from the "subject" area is what used to be the Jousting arena. They had a lot of problems getting the site up as it was all wetlandish. The paths you see are paved, and, at least during construction, were prone to sinkholes. The buildings are gorgrous from the outside, and not particularly livable in. Sure it's shelter, but I remember them having issues with the local constabulary/fire dept. as to people living in them - not precisely code-worthy. One thing I don't see, and maybe they've removed it, is the ship stage they built on a pond. Those stunt-monkey friends of mine took dives off it into the water as part of the stunt show. . . Ah memories... thanks, Ewan...

So I guess I should stop thinking "I really need to try out the Virginia Renaissance Faire this year . . ." I got bored with the unchanging Maryland Renaissance Festival, esp. after they got rid of the good looking mud show guy and his buddies and brought in hack replacements. So I haven't been to one in quite a while . . .
