True. The logo shows 7 cubes w/ 3 faces showing each. The re are 3 Latin words and 7 Names.
The names may be Founders or legends or current staff of the Academy. Each may also have or use a cube if Hesketh is so strongly associated with one.

The Receda Cube may not be the only cube. Think about it - why was the cube's name blanked out? There may be others - just look at the Academy logo. Perhaps someone doesn't want a certain someone else to know which cube was stolen...?
So they've lost more than one priceless artifact?
I think the cube's name was blanked out to create early spec, and to make things more mysterious.

hm. interesting suggestion. It is possible the receda cube was not stolen. It's just an article mentioning the receda cube. and some other stuff saying the XXXXX cube was stolen. to spread misinformation, fFor some reason.
It's not entirely impossible.
But highly unlikely. I'd say it's 90% likely it was the receda cube which was stolen.
I'm not ruling this piece of spec out entirely right now, but i'm not putting much stock in it either.

I think the Receda cube is the one and only cube and was just blacked out to a) create early spec and b) coz the pms hadnt decided on a name.
I think as it is an archaeological find it is more likely to be (as someone else suggested) named after where it was found like the Rosetta stone because thats just common practice, if it was there'd be a hellova lotta stuff called Petrie.
course Receda could be its name because of some hieroglyphic style symbols on it...

I thought the suggestion was that there are 7 cubes in total, but only the Receda cube was stolen. The Academy still has the other 6? Maybe its like one of those Zelda tri-force dealies where the cubes only work properly when placed together
The names on the PCA logo could be the names of the cube discoverers; so Zeller discovered Receda, Taversen discovered another etc ?
By the way, where can i see a decent res full image of the whole logo? The only whole logo i have seen is SasunD's avatar (!), but it isn't very hi-res

I think I'm in the 'just the one cube' camp...maybe the multiple cubes on the academy logo is representative of it's complex nature; it has many different aspects.
Zeller is the only one of the names on the academy logo that has been indicated to have worked with the cube...and it would be odd for an academy to study a single object, although that could have been the impetus for its founding. I suspect the other names are less directly related to the cube.
Something that is interesting is the religious aspect mentioned in the latest ad. Great potential for conflict between science and religion...could the mention be a hint of accusation of the thieves?

Taversen may have been responsible for founding the Academy, given that his name is also in the PCA's address.

The best scan of the logo that we have is on the postcard. From that and the images on perplexcity.com SasunD put together the image for his avatar and posted the bigger original on here somewhere - I'm sure a search would turn it up.
I'm siding with Mikeyj about the number of cubes - we only have clear evidence that there's one of them. The logo could just be something that they thought would look cool on their stationery .

'Recéder' is a French verb. It's not a word I've ever really read or heard in every day life, so I can't be sure of its exact definition or translation. Babelfish comes up with 'to resell', but 'céder' comes up as 'to yield', so 'recéder' would be to 're-yield'. Doesn't quite sound right to me either way

Maybe Receda cube is named after a person, or a place...it doesnt have to be a direct translation from a word does it?
Maybe it was found in Receda, Perplex City land

Guys I know that there has been a lot of debate about the meaning of Receda, so here is how I got WITHDRAWING.
Logos is the best translation tool I have been able to find and an Italian site, first time I think I had to log in with a Uni account which is why I hadn't posted it, but fingers crossed I hope that the link works: LOGOS LINK
To get a translation, on the front page: Dictionary (on left), enter word
Takes you to screen showing
- Translation (Italian verb recedere)
- The number of languages with an equvilant word (5)
- SUBJECT: the specialist or general area of use (LAW)
- Grammer: (verb)
- Conjugation (RECEDA used in 2 tenses, several singular forms)
ALSO Context: Context of use of searched for word, Translation: languages/context of use of equivilant word in that language, other definitions of equivilant word, and more.
This translation is not necessarily the only one, but the only one I have found using several translating tools. I also quite like the idea of the town in California.
[SPEC] I think withdrawing would fit with the idea of a portal (being able to withdraw or go away from scene), or distance viewing (being withdrawn or away from the scene being viewed).
