great! now we definitely have a murder on our hands - poor Fran - and a new character Camryn Scott - time to scour those access logs I think ( http://www.perplexcity.com/tmp/httpd/errorlog/) - who went through Gate 24 around when Mendling was at the Gate other than Tanner? of course, it says she failed to report for her 2am shift, so she might have been killed at a different time/day than when Tanner went through.

Also, Camryn Scott mentioned a special police task force - are we it? And are we looking for a Cube, solving a murder, both? Are they separate tasks or will one be accomplished, by necessity, before the other can?

Take a closer look, you can search outside of the jobs page. Look at that black bar on the page's bottom, it has links to other sections.

I'm looking for our ad now.

based on the scan and what I'v seen online, I don't think it will respond to a search - it looks like it was a preformatted ad that is probably stored online, if it is online, as a graphic, not individual words that can be searched for

Fits in right after the quote from the Times on Feb 23 IMHO

the only thing that sounds odd from the La Presse snippet is the "and that will bring them..."

it would flow much better and make more sense, IMHO, if it just read "find them and bring them to justice..."

dont forget the

bout the 'that will bring them...', what i meant was that the 'that will' seemed to come about from it being translated as a fragment/instruction i.e. go and find them and that will... but if we now tried translating it in the context of the entire sentence it would probably flow better. or maybe i'm not reading something right. it makes sense in my head, honest.... ;)

just another thought, probably nothing actually important, but this newspaper ad is actually 'properly' laid out with all the different type sizes and stuff, like on the post it notes. it could be just them trying to make it look nice and tie in with other ppc related stuff, or just attention grabbing, but if they use it consistently in the future it may mean something.

also the url on this ad is in a completely different font than anything we've seen so far in game, just doesnt go at all. since they seem to have laid out the rest of the ad deliberately, id assume this wasnt just the newspaper staff picking a pretty font to put the web address in.
i think it's papyrus if anyone's interested, whereas the rest of it looks like bog standard serif mixed with bog standard sans serif, probably times new roman and arial. on the other hand, programs like ms word sometimes substitute papyrus randomly for fonts they dont recognise/have installed, maybe the ad designer forgot to embed the correct font with the ad...

sorry if this is boring/horribly irrelevant to everyone else, im just a bit of a typography geek and tend to notice these things.

rach =)

Regarding retranslating the La Presse article taking the context into account, this is what I can get:

"Find them and that it will bring them to justice. "Sente Kiteway", Master of"

The only concession I can do to the context without breaking the meaning is the "it".

However, it seems pretty clear to me what their meaning was and what happened: they translated the original sentence from english with an automated translator and the resulting french came out a bit weird.

Anyone else thinks the translation would be much clearer if they'd have used "we'll" rather than will? This is an error I find many native french speakers do when talking in english.

So I guess it's pretty much case closed for that translation.

french translation

I agree.

I would put the we'll in, in place of will.

The rest the the english has been of quite a nice quality, it is just the fragmented translation that has caused all the problems.

Sorry perhaps i'm missing something, but why are you so sure LA times & the Post-it go first??

Assuming now that all of these newspaper adverts are extracts from the same article written about the theft of the cube and the murder of Fran Mendling (which seems to be the general concesus), it would seem that we are still missing the start of this article. As such, the blurb about the significance of the cube is only additional information for those who didn't know it already (ie. all of us Smile)

I would actually put those two at the end, but hey i guess it doesn't really matter too much right now until we have all the pieces.

If you read them in the order am520dj posted them it makes sense.

Furthermore, they (who ever wrote the article) would call the Receda Cube by its proper full title atleast once before just refering to it as the Cube.

Lastly, it is also very unlikely that they would switch back and forth from calling the Receda Cube and the Cube, that is a very incosistant way of writting that is atypical of press releases and newspaper articles.
