that 50's show

women are for sex, reproduction, and entertainment. note how delilah was discouraged from wanting to take an astronomy course. note the layout of the town, and how the families all seem so dated. also note they all appeared to be practically CLONES of each other in action, etc...

Each family in that scene had an older daughter, a younger son, a wife, and a dog.

At least we now know there are children in PUSH (albeit weird ones).

I was looking back at Enoch's "The Beginning" story of how he got involved in the whole Push mystery and noticed that this tidbit is more relevant in light of the strange behavior or the citizenry:

"Perhaps you're familiar with this impulse. You've read the proud corporate press releases about their new "Living Laboratories." You're probably also aware that many of these efforts have historically produced unfortunate consequences, without yielding desired results. Et ecce universa vanitas et adflictio spiritus, and such."

I would deduce from this that Push is indeed some sort of "Living Laboratory" for a twisted corporate entity with some insidious plan to, more than likely, take over the world. First Enron...now this!!! Smile

It's from Ecclesiastes 1:14. Here is the whole Latin verse:

vidi quae fiunt cuncta sub sole et ecce universa vanitas et adflictio spiritus

here is the translation:
I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all [is] vanity and vexation of spirit.

uhm, yup

I thought that was fairly obvious from the, well, beginning. In the page, the statement is the contact told him the answer to his question re: expirements in Push, was Yes. My take on this since day 1 is that there is a government, para-gov/mil, and/or corporate sponsored expirement going on. The whole thing's being monitored/controlled/run by Watermark. I never was in the camp of the money laundering thing. Based on various things I've come across, my hunch is that the whole thing has to do with genetic engineering, possibly based on sustainability of a selected germline in the face of environmental change.

I've been chewing on this for a while now and I still can't reconcile it. I agree with you there's a Watermark controlled experiment going on....but the complete nature of it is not strictly genetic engineering, etc. The money ties in. And after "Letter of the Law" I'm thinking money never leaves town. Is the whole town completely contained, like a financial bio-dome? There is plenty of evidence suggesting genetic engineering, but how is it financed and who is reaping the monetary rewards?

hey pullofpush

well, I said money laundering and I meant counterfeiting. sigh...

n-e-way, there is something to be said for money laundering. as we now know from ep5, bodnick was skimming for sloman. sloman was then using that as vig for criminal activities. the proceeds of which must be cleaned somehow in order to be put back into circulation. there is some slim chance that he could be using casino payouts for that. the suits are aware the casino is not a revenue stream for watermark. the money is paid out as winnings and brought back in to what we assume are legitimate businesses and then to the s&l. there are some problems with that scenario, tho. like, sole proprietorships. still, if a black box op was taking place in Push, they'd have to make the money flow a closed loop. in terms of genetic manipulation, why does the payoff have to be monetary in nature?

Ok, so lets try to string this together: Watermark suggests/strongly encourages/forces Sloman to close his undoubtedly lucrative brothel (because they don't want any unauthorized genes mixing in the pool, or they want to use the girls {Quinny described them as fertility goddesses} for their experiments, whatever). Watermark helps Sloman reopen as the slow-dance bar, which better suits their purposes because....? Watermark supplies the town with...well, everything. Watermark runs the casino which keeps the folk fat and happy. In return, Watermark gets the run of Push and everyone in it...$cha-ching$ for Watermark? {LLC...this is financial, not scientific...right? Both? So big a corporation, their left hand doesn't know what their right hand is doing? We don't know yet?}
And Sloman, known criminal, greedy bastard, devil incarnate, gets a big enough slice of the pie to satisfy even his black hole. What is this payoff? Freedom to run his petty scams secure in the knowledge no arm of the law can touch him? Power? Over a town like Push? Doubtful. Great sex with his daughter? Yick. It'll have to be something big...immortality, never aging again....reanimating or cloning his beloved dead...wife, daughter, self? Any thoughts?
Remember, the government is aware of whatever is going on out there. What would our government hire a group like Watermark to do? Clean up after their own mess? What does the Competition do? How are the events of 1984 related to Push's current situation? I guess what I'm really wondering is, was this a science experiment or a financial one? My first idea is a science experiment gone wrong, then compounded by greed when someone realized there was big money to be gained off the situation.
Am I just way off course? Confused Please let better minds than mine prevail to set me straight.
