yes, yes it has. here and other threads. by the way, we are all making the assumption that the murder was incidental with the cube. what if the murder were unrelated, the cube stolen to add to the mystery? after all, if only academy personell can reach earth, than someone at teh academy has to be the theif (inside job on the security?) and ceretin use or production might have something to do with it.

We have seen at least 2 individual uses of enhancement drugs. one was used to kill fFran. another was used by Nuru in his athletics. I would go on to suggest ceretin is yet another drug of some kind. And there are, I would lay goododds, plenty more. I don't believe one is the same as any other we have seen so fFar. As in our world, ceretin is one name brand of one product, and there are plenty of others as well.

I believe Ceretin is intrduced here to give a sense of the social importance of mental acuity which seems so predominant in this society.

neuro-suppressant device.

not drug. basically, it would be a device that emits some form of radiation that supresses the brain. cause unconciousness, memory loss, and eventually, death.

and i agree, ceretin is a legal builder, like creatine, and nuru got ejected for something illegal, ala steroids.

I posted this earlier.

There are loads of websites like this registered, could well just be to stop people making hoax sites (we've had one already)[/google]

i've just noticed in that in the lettters page there's a reference to a murder trial in which celebrity athletes are involved. Why is it that perplex city's sportsmen (and women?) seem to be a biy dodgy -- murderers and/or drug-taking cheats, possibly!

I tried www.perplexcitysentinel.com/pcag/ expecting a 404 (page not found), but got the subscription key verify page. So, its a live subdirectory and bears watching.

[spec] might we be able to earn some PCL by playing or betting on the sport. and so buy a subscription to the sentinel?

Maybe an update to this story on the 28th will give us a lead.

Kindof mimics our own world with American baseball steroid scandal, Tyler Hamilton (bicycling, e.g. Tour de France) accused (wrongly I believe) of performance enhancing transfusions, etc.

Given the prominence of the "puzzle" section in the Sentinal, and the performance enhancing solutions, I'm tempted to say that the sports refered to are of a mental and not neccissarily a purely physical variety (a cross between American Gladiators and Jeopardy-- Ken Jennings on steroids?). Regardless, I think the "enhancement" scandal might involve Ceretin-- as I'm unable to stop drawing a mental image of Ceretin as the Mental version of Creatine.

Anywho.... we keep grasping at straws for now....

edit: Just read above... I'll Trout myself. sorry for the repeat, but leaving it as it does go slightly furthur

I was thinking ceratin sounds like serotonin, which dictionary.com defines as

An organic compound, C10H12N2O, formed from tryptophan and found in animal and human tissue, especially the brain, blood serum, and gastric mucous membranes, and active as a neurotransmitter and in vasoconstriction, stimulation of the smooth muscles, and regulation of cyclic body processes.

Sounds like the kind of thing that might help you "stay sharp", no?

So, it's likely one of those cognition enhancers. I'd guess that either its a low-powered legal enhancer, or its legal for the general populace, but competitors in the brain games (mentaletes?) swear not to use it or analogues.

I like this line of thought. But rather than saying it might be serotonin, which is the actual neurotransmitter, I think we're looking for a pre-cursor. Serotonin itself might be like injecting steroids. I know there's another compound in the brain labelled 5HTP, which is also broken down and used to make serotonin. (It has erroneously been attributed with a reputation of being a "natural" anti-depressent). Like a mental creatine offers energy to muscles, it would be a source of material for the brain to use if necessary. Tryptophan might also work, though I don't know if it's available--5HTP can be bought like as an herbal supplement.

From a commercial standpoint, seretonin is one of a group of three neurotransmitters - that is seretonin, dopamine and noradrenaline - that are related to the cause or effect of mood disorders and schizophrenia. It seems out of place to me that a newspaper that appears to be Perplex City's version of The Times would contain adverts for this on the majority of their pages. Although I think we are now reading too much into this, we should also take into account Adrian Hon studied neuroscience - or so I heard - before going on to head this project.

First look to me, I see a business-class version of Pro-Plus.

I was not going to say anything until I read that word. I have never seen that word before tonight, but your post was not where I saw it first. I saw it in one of many possible anagrams and wondered what it was. The words I used were from the crest of the Academy (not the Latin). I know, I know, stop doing anagrams they'll make me crazy, but this is a coincidence and I am noting it. I'm starting to think there is a whole class of people with ESP and they are introducing themseleves to us - for real. See what anagrams can do . . .!#$%@^!!![/u]
