I was sent this recently. It has a lot of things we should think about when dealing with our 'new friends'.

In Appleharbor a group of 'vagrants' spent some time on the beach.
When they left, they left an old man hanging dead from a tree, with one eye cut out.
At the scene of the crime a Valknut pendant and a piece of paper with Elder Futhark (old norse) runes were found.

Both pieces of evidence suggest a Nordic Cult has something to do with this.

The new encoding on the Persistence forum is called Roughman/Yggdrasil.
Yggdrasil is the 'world tree' in Norse mythology (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yggdrasil)
vs_faery anagrams to vs_freya, a norse goddess (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freya)
vs_roth anagrams to vs_thor, a norse god (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thor)
The Valknut symbol also appears on one of the PostCards

I knew Roth anagramed to Thor, but I never thought to check faery for an anagram of Norse Gods. The comment Faery made about Roth being her stepson now makes sense.
