Old Mombasa! Old Mombas! Ill meet all Beekepers on the roof where the weapon chache is!
That'd be the greatest easter egg to toss in.
A little spot on the map with a rocket launcher and some sniper ammo or something.

I really enjoy playing on Live with the Beekeepers. Keep that in mind, because I'm about to rant.
I'm a sucker for a good story. I love them. It's why I'm still here in these ARGS, because they have good stories. It's why I play videogames and read China Mieville novels. I love it when the imagination produces it's work in a publicly accessible forum. So, when I say I'm disappointed with this announcement, it's because I was hoping for, even expecting, a suitable finish to the single-player campaign. Everything that I've heard about the single-player, about the MC and the Arbiter, has been all sound and fury, sans substance. There is no concrete information regarding that story I paid 40 bucks for. That's what I want, what I crave.
It seems ludicrous that Bungie and Microsoft would not finish their story at some point, and I'm sure it will occur on the NextBox. However, that is at best unsatisfactory. If they're going to rehash Halo 2 on the NextBox, I don't see any reason to buy the machine. That's the type of marketing that disgusts me. Now, if they're going to continue the story, that will be worth considering. However, right now, it seems like Bungie is tossing their goodwill away.
Cynical.

What are the other 5 maps going to be?
Terminal, Relic, Elongation , Gemini, and Backwash.
$10 says that Elongation is a rehash of Longest (and incidentally probably my least favorite) from Halo:CE.

Wizard is being ported as 'Warlock', sweet! Does that mean we can expect Hang 'em High as well?
Brace yourself...Nope. Sorry. While everyone here is aware that Hang 'Em High (and to a lesser extent Sidewinder) would be massively popular, our preliminary tests with Hang 'Em High proved pretty quickly that the changed weapons and physics made it far less fun than you remember it being in Halo: Combat Evolved. Since each map was being lovingly crafted, polished and tested by a full team, we felt the resources were better spent on new maps. After all, if you loved Hang 'Em High, you can still play it on Halo CE.
Forgive my momentary insanity but this is the stupidest excuse I've ever heard. If it didn't work well when Bungie tested it out then why not make "modifications" like they did to Coagulation and Beaver Creek? It's the single most requested MP Map and they aren't going to release a new version of it? It's probably the only map that I would be willing to pay $2.22 to play. ($19.99/9=2.22) I would think that if Bungie was smart they would listen to their fans; after all if someone request something then they are usually willing to pay for it. Bad decision Bungie! Go sit in the corner. And no dessert for you!

Marketing... Can't live with them and you can't shoot them.
--Grifter wonders how Rood got $10 off the price of Halo 2??? Lucky bastard.

You have to look at it like this.
Coag and Beaver Creek didn't really have that much changed. Some sniper cover on Coag, and the removal of the ladders in Beaver. They didn't need much changed-both maps still work pretty much the same.
HEH is different. That map was pretty much just pistol warfare. As a result, with the pistol being weakened it doesn't really seem like it'd be as fun. And since you no longer have a health bar, it probably created some problems with that aspect too.

Remember in Halo 1, the penalty for going for the Sniper on Hang em High was you had to take fall damage to get down.
Same for the Overshield up there, really (although you could walk the whole way back from this ledge).
The Longest was fun, even if it was small. Although much of that was due to infinite nades...

No bet. Note that Ferrex is the guy in Bungie who built that map... (and everybody's FAVOURITE Halo map, the Library!)

Fall damage.
Without it, there's less risk in using the catwalks, and that changes the whole balance of the map. In addition, as ubersaurus points out, without the old pistol duals will play out differently. Also, the "tombstones" can now be jumped over which changes the feel of the map yet again.
They'd be able to release a map that would kinda look like HeH, but it wouldn't play like it... and they'd catch flak for the different feel. So where's the incentive to do it?

I do too.

I would prefer new and inovative maps that were talored made for Halo 2 rather than a rehashing of old maps. I have already heard too much bitching about how Halo 2 is not like Halo 1 in so many ways im tired of it. I accualy played Halo 2 before I played Halo 1 and Guess what, Halo 2 is just better, give it up.

Vector, I don't think anyone here was saying that Halo 1 was better than Halo 2. The point I was trying to make was that pretty much a sales lesson. Supply and Demand. Obviously there was a high demand for HEH, and it would have been in their best interest if they included it as DLC (People would have paid for it.)
I believe as you do that Halo 2 is better, though being that I played Halo 1 for 3 years there are things you get used to and when they aren't there it seems "wrong." For instance.. Fall damage. I used to kill so many people by knocking them off somewhere high. But alas, I roll with the punches and see that there are countless other ways to kill people in Halo 2 (AKA - Fusion Cores exploding.) I'm not "bitching" here, just "explaining" so that you can see what I mean.
While all of your (peps that posted above) analysis of why they couldn't modify it (HEH) to work for Halo 2 is true, there are other things they could have done. Perhaps dropping the floor from underneath the catwalks, and put certain sections where you had to make percise jumps to get across the bottom most section of HEH. This would have recreated the fall damage (although always to fatality). But it would have give the board the same sense of "I have to be careful not to fall off here" feeling.
As for Pistols (as many of your pointed out), I guess this was the main problem with the map during bungies testing, but I was always used to playing HEH with only Sniper Rifles, Rockets, or Shotguns; So the pistol thing wouldn't bother me but I'm sure it would other people.

Um, they did that. They just called it "Lockout" instead of "Hang 'em High over the Heights." There's also a few parts of "Ascension" that have that feel, too.
-- Steve's only dimly aware of the intricacies involved in the delicate balance between the draw of the familiar and the desire for novelty... how much repetition is acceptable? Dunno.

I always played HEH Slayer with just Shotgun and Grenades, I think that's the best way to play most maps in Halo1 (Except Blood Gulch, which was always human weaps, hog only), it's the feeling of never knowing when you're gonna get stuck or face-holed with the shottie that makes the game fun.

they could do other things like put a bunch of fusion cores where you would fall so if someone saw you fall the would think shoot where he lands.....BOOM!!! HEH could have been a cool map and i would like to prove this mathamaticly... (halo1 ver)halo 1+pistle+HEHXfall damage=fun .....(halo2ver)halo2+battle rifle+HEH+no fall damage+fusion coreX(times)explotions=fun there you have it HEH gameplay in a nutshell

*sigh*
I was hoping to see my beloved sidewinder.
Oh well. I'll be interested to see what the maps look like. Not sure when I'll get them, and hopefully I'll be done with Doom3 by then.

Have you seen Containment? It looks like it has the same basic level design, with the L-shape. Although it also looks to be at least 2 times bigger(and those bases...you could get lost in those!).

I'm with Grifter on this one! Hang 'em High would be sooo awesome!
Battle rifle would dominate on it, I believe, but I still would love it! I'm somewhat disappointed ...
