I wouldn't read too much into the letters to the editor - one of them is from me!

The editors may have filtered through the letters and picked the ones that are spec'ing along the right lines, or they may just have picked out the ones with the most interesting-sounding red herrings.

Either way, I'm dead chuffed to see my letter up there!

Maybe I've been wathcing too many episodes of Spooks lately, but I think there is a message in the Futures text for us. Madama Bianca could be a pseudonym for the author, who could be someone working for or with the Academy and so it is the one easy way to slip a message in.

The messages about basics and base three started me thinking along the lines that we need to take every third letter or word from the text.

Below is what I got taking every third word if the Futures are treated as one big block of text:

of what when sushi eel roll you archer in should ways snarl your heaven weekly bet are fruits labor taking is though often don't take minds so with mind let make your ignites against team energies positive it before an seem in of phase like turn overstepping boundaries you missing of jigsaw worse your is week out ad it's pride haven't well it's get basics are rise that never smart who three spirit has portals heed who your your compass as a do this make eel rolls lucky signs

The words may need to be rearranged to make sense or I may be off track. I was going to try every third word of each message next, but figured I'd put the idea out there in case someone can make something of it.

Did anyone here write any of those letters to the editor?

LOL! Laughing Yes, one of the letters is from me, also. I authored "KITEWAY UNFIT FOR OFFICE?" by Chasen derWürfel. German, anyone...?

If you take the Eel and cumber portion and use the rolls as an instruction like in a crosword clue you get the following:

seraching for cube

searching for clue (which is what we're looking for):

There are also refernces to luck and playing cards clue number aced seems to stand out to me.

Here's the thing that stood out for me: "Eel and Cucumber Roll" contains the letters for RECEDA CUBE.

From the anagram server, I got:
Code:
RECEDA CUBE LOLL MR UN
RECEDA CUBE LOLL MR NU
RECEDA CUBE LULL NORM
RECEDA CUBE LULL MORN
RECEDA CUBE LULL MR ON
RECEDA CUBE LULL MR NO
RECEDA CUBE MULL LORN

Any ideas?

edit: You can get a different result if you eliminate the word "roll" and just use "eel and cucumber". It won't find an anagram in the Anagram Server, but it does anagram to RECEDA CUBE, with the letters L, M, N, and U remaining.

Hey all,
Just for info:

And remember, it's not how you play the game, it's how the game plays you, kiddo.

The "it's not how you play the game, it's how the game plays you" part is from the movie "Spy Game". Its interesting to me that they'd be familiar with this film.

Just for completeness, which letter did you write?

Also, should the Futures thing go under Puzzles now, or should we wait until we're more confident there's something there? I admit the 'base three' comment screams puzzle, although each future may be a general hint ("a good week to take out a personal ad") rather than a unified puzzle.

It still seems to me that there are an awful lot of numbers in the front page articles. I'm blowed if I can figure anything out about them though, but there certainly seem to be a lot.

For those that didn't catch it, The Apple-Thief future is a rhyme and a take on the poem that begins "I think that I shall never see a poem lovely as a tree"

Quote:
I think that you shall never be
as smart as those who know base three.

Very Happy

I think you're on to something. The Archer would be A: sour fruits are probably apples, taking up arms, "appropriate."

"Ascendancy Point"? mentioned in the letters section, in the letter written about fFutures in the paper.

As for the notion that the gravity of other planets could affect us here, a trivial calculation shows that the Ascendancy Point exerts far more gravitational influence on us than any planet!

what the heck? a quick google turns up no recognizeable references to any specific Ascendancy Point of which i should be aware. dictionary.com has no entry. so it's a new concept.

Ascendancy Point?? is that perhaps the perplexian version of the sun, maybe?

What if it is the Perplexian name (or even a brand name) for a space elevator. It would be a point on the planet where you'd go to ascend. Hence, ascendancy point?

Classifieds

Just FYI, I sent in the following classified last week:

Alison_1 wrote:
Greetings, I would like to place the following classified ad:

"Desperately seeking help with key servicing. Any qualified key service person please contact. Looking for low fees but first-rate quality. Point your key to: alison_1SPLATxxxx.com"

Please send me a classified advertising rate card with current words per leck rates and I can send billing information.

Thanks,
Alison Wan

I got the pat response back of course. But this item in today's Sentinel was interesting:

Amber Mai-Wan wrote:
She suggested that all key users should deactivate their keys and bring them in to an authorized technician for service at the first sign of unusual behavior, including any significant loss of function.

I hope we can start classifieds soon!

You are as beautiful as a flower. Why do you let this ugly-minded person make you dinner? (Eel and cucumber rolls can be lucky for all signs, really. Yum.)

Eel and Cucumber!

When i read this, the first thing that came to mind is us being spoonfed.

They've given us the clue about eel and cucumber rolls once, and now we're having someone make us dinner (feeding us) the same clue again.

Also, since it's lucky for all signs, that means that it's lucky for everyone of us---> something we all need to progress.

just my two lecks...

Eel and cucumber rolls

"Eel and cucumber rolls"

Cube Caeser normed lull
Cube clamorers nulled
Unscrambler clued leo
Cerebellum cauldrons

My first instinct tells me the PMs are ROTFLTAO at us trying to anagram this.

- - -

The dates for the horoscopes are all the 10th - the 11th of a given month, This does not align with the Earth Zodiac.

The Dragon is familar in Chinese calendaring.

The names are different except for the Archer, in our Zodiac the archer is Saggitarius.

If you go through and find your PC sign, then fill the other signs in in-sequence you can see this does not make Saggitarius the Archer.

I hope this gives at least some ideas cause I'm too pooped to think anymore!

It seems to me like a feature of the Sentinel is being revealed every week. Last week was the letters to the editor, this week could be ads. Just speculation from an ARG newbie however.
